Key facts

What you'll do

• Prepare and maintain accurate financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, in accordance with accounting standards.
• Assist in the month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting of financial results.
• Reconcile general ledger accounts and resolve discrepancies to maintain the integrity of financial data.
• Support the budgeting and forecasting processes by providing relevant financial analysis and insights.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather financial information and ensure alignment with organizational goals.
• Assist in the preparation of tax returns and ensure compliance with federal and provincial tax regulations.
• Conduct regular audits of financial processes and internal controls to identify areas for improvement.
• Provide support during external audits by preparing necessary documentation and responding to auditor inquiries.
• Monitor and analyze financial performance metrics, identifying trends and variances to inform management decisions.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of accounting regulations and best practices to ensure compliance and enhance operational efficiency.
• Assist in the development and implementation of accounting policies and procedures to streamline operations.
• Mentor and support junior accounting staff, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting or a similar role, preferably within a corporate environment.
• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or similar) and Microsoft Excel.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices, as well as relevant regulations.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with keen attention to detail.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex financial information clearly.

Nice to have

• Professional accounting designation (e.g., CPA, CMA, CGA) is an asset.
• Experience with project accounting or cost accounting in a service-oriented industry.
• Familiarity with financial reporting standards and regulations specific to the environmental sector.
