About the role
Bamboohr is looking for an Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer to contribute to geotechnical projects based in Cambridge, Ontario. What you'll do
Assist in conducting site investigations and gathering subsurface data for construction projects in the Cambridge region and surrounding areas.
Prepare geotechnical reports that summarize soil conditions, rock properties, and groundwater findings for project teams and external stakeholders.
Support senior engineers in the design of shallow and deep foundation systems for various building types and structural configurations.
Analyze laboratory and field test results to determine soil bearing capacity, settlement characteristics, and slope stability parameters.
Collaborate with project managers to develop geotechnical scopes of work and cost estimates for client proposals and bid packages.
Review geological maps and existing site data to identify potential ground conditions, geohazards, and subsurface challenges for planning purposes.
Participate in field work activities including test pit excavation, sampling, and in-situ testing procedures at active project sites.
Coordinate with geologists and other engineering disciplines to integrate geotechnical findings into overall project designs and construction documents.
Maintain project documentation, records, and quality control files in accordance with firm standards, industry practices, and regulatory procedures.
Communicate technical findings and recommendations to clients, contractors, and internal stakeholders through written reports and verbal presentations.
Requirements
A degree in geotechnical engineering, civil engineering, or a closely related field from an accredited post-secondary institution.
Familiarity with geotechnical investigation methods, field testing procedures, and laboratory testing protocols for soil and rock materials.
Understanding of foundation design principles including shallow foundations, deep foundations, and earth retaining structures used in construction.
Ability to interpret geological and geotechnical data and translate complex findings into practical engineering recommendations for project teams.
Strong written and verbal communication skills for preparing detailed technical reports and presenting findings to diverse project audiences.
Willingness to participate in field activities and travel to project sites as needed for data collection and site characterization.
Attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks within project timelines, deadlines, and quality standards consistently.
Comfort working both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team in a professional office and field environment.

Experience with geotechnical software tools for analysis and modeling of soil and rock behavior under various loading conditions.
