About the role
As an , you will play a crucial role in the pre-construction phase of various mechanical projects. Your primary responsibility will be to analyze project specifications, drawings, and other relevant documents to prepare accurate cost estimates. You will collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure that all aspects of the project are accounted for in your estimates. What you'll do
- Review project plans, specifications, and related documents to develop comprehensive cost estimates for mechanical systems and services.
- Collaborate with project managers and engineers to clarify project requirements and ensure that all necessary components are included in the estimates.
- Conduct site visits to gather information and assess conditions that may impact project costs.
- Utilize estimating software and tools to create detailed and accurate cost breakdowns.
- Analyze labor, material, and overhead costs to provide competitive pricing while ensuring profitability for the company.
- Prepare and present detailed estimates to clients and stakeholders, addressing any questions or concerns they may have.
- Monitor and track changes in project scope and adjust estimates accordingly to reflect any modifications.
- Maintain a database of historical costs and pricing trends to inform future estimates and improve accuracy.
- Work closely with procurement teams to identify and source materials and subcontractors that align with project budgets.
- Participate in bid meetings and negotiations with clients to secure contracts and establish project timelines.
- Collaborate with the finance department to ensure that estimates align with budgetary constraints and financial forecasts.
- Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and best practices to enhance estimating processes and methodologies.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in estimating for mechanical projects, preferably within the construction or engineering sectors.
- Proficiency in estimating software such as Bluebeam, PlanSwift, or similar tools.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex technical documents and drawings.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively convey estimates and collaborate with team members.
- Detail-oriented mindset with a commitment to accuracy and quality in all work produced.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
- Familiarity with local building codes, regulations, and industry standards.
Nice to have
- Certification as a Certified Estimator or similar professional designation.
- Experience with project management software such as Procore or MS Project.
- Knowledge of sustainable building practices and energy-efficient systems.
- Previous experience working in a fast-paced office environment.
- Bilingual abilities, particularly in Spanish, can be an asset in communicating with diverse teams and clients.
