About the role

We are seeking a highly experienced Revenue Manager to join our finance team based in Menlo Park, CA. This role is critical in overseeing the company's revenue recognition processes, managing collaboration revenue accounting, and ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the monthly, quarterly, and annual revenue close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and revenue adjustments. Reporting directly to the Controller, this position offers an opportunity to contribute significantly to our financial operations, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and adherence to US GAAP. The Revenue Manager will work closely with cross-functional teams, including Finance, Reimbursement, and FP&A, to support revenue reporting and process improvements. This role requires a detail-oriented professional with strong analytical skills, a solid understanding of revenue recognition standards, and experience in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.

What you'll do

• Lead the monthly, quarterly, and year-end revenue closing activities, including preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, and revenue recognition adjustments to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
• Oversee the accounting and reporting for collaboration agreements, ensuring all revenue is recognized in accordance with ASC 606 standards and contractual terms.
• Prepare and review workpapers supporting revenue recognition, disclosures, and quarterly tax provisions, ensuring compliance with applicable accounting standards.
• Reconcile Accounts Receivable and cash collections on a monthly basis, verifying the accuracy of data between ERP systems and revenue management tools such as Xifin.
• Maintain detailed documentation of revenue recognition policies, internal controls, and procedures, updating them as needed to stay compliant with evolving standards and company policies.
• Support internal and external audits by providing documentation, explanations, and ensuring SOX controls are maintained and effective.
• Collaborate with the Reimbursement team to improve revenue cycle reporting, identify discrepancies, and implement process enhancements to increase efficiency and accuracy.
• Work closely with FP&A and other finance teams to ensure revenue data is accurately reflected in financial reports and forecasts.
• Assist in the development and implementation of new systems or tools to streamline revenue recognition processes and reporting.
• Monitor changes in accounting standards and industry best practices related to revenue recognition, providing guidance and updates to the finance team.
• Participate in special projects related to revenue accounting, process improvements, or system implementations as needed.
• Support ad hoc analysis and reporting requests from senior management, providing insights into revenue trends and performance metrics.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA certification is required or actively pursuing CPA credentials.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, including at least 2 years in public accounting and revenue accounting roles.
• Strong understanding of US GAAP, particularly ASC 606 and SOX 404 compliance, with demonstrated experience applying these standards in practice.
• Proven experience managing revenue recognition processes, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial analysis.
• Familiarity with ERP systems, preferably NetSuite, and revenue management systems such as Xifin.
• Experience working in a high-growth, fast-paced environment, with the ability to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
• Excellent organizational skills with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and communicate findings clearly.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills, capable of explaining technical accounting issues to non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks effectively, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Experience supporting internal and external audits, including SOX controls and documentation.

Nice to have

• Experience with lab billing or revenue management systems, particularly in a healthcare or biotech setting.
• Knowledge of industry-specific revenue recognition challenges and solutions.
• Familiarity with financial reporting tools and dashboards to enhance visibility into revenue metrics.

Skills & tools

• Proficiency in financial analysis and reporting tools.
• Strong working knowledge of NetSuite and Xifin systems.
• Familiarity with Excel, including advanced functions, pivot tables, and data analysis techniques.
• Ability to learn and adapt to new systems or software quickly.

Practical notes

• The total annual compensation package for this role is $267,226, which includes a base salary range of $160,777 to $192,932.
• The compensation package also includes comprehensive benefits such as multiple medical plans, dental, vision, and life insurance options.
