About the role

You will architect and implement the next generation of scalable, resilient, and secure services that power our global shopping experiences. In this role, you will own the design and delivery of critical backend systems that directly support our mission of connecting brands with consumers. You will collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions. You will lead technical discussions, define system architecture, and ensure our platforms meet the highest standards of performance and reliability. You will mentor engineers, influence technical direction, and champion best practices across the organization. You will play a key role in driving innovation and ensuring our technology infrastructure scales to meet global demand. You will be responsible for delivering high-quality software on schedule while maintaining a strong focus on security and compliance. You will partner with data teams to ensure our systems enable actionable insights from the massive scale of consumer interactions we handle.

What you'll do

Design and develop scalable, secure, and high-performance backend services using modern programming languages and cloud-native technologies.

Collaborate with product managers and stakeholders to define technical requirements and translate business needs into robust software solutions.

Lead the architecture and implementation of new features that enhance our global network and syndication platform.

Optimize system performance, reliability, and scalability to support billions of consumer interactions across our retail, social, and search networks.

Implement and maintain monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions to ensure system health and rapid incident response.

Partner with data engineering teams to build data pipelines that enable real-time business insights and analytics capabilities.

Drive best practices in code quality, testing, security, and documentation across the engineering organization.

Mentor and guide junior engineers through code reviews, technical design discussions, and professional development initiatives.

Collaborate with distributed teams across multiple time zones to deliver cohesive and integrated platform capabilities.

Evaluate emerging technologies and tools to identify opportunities for improving our infrastructure and development workflows.

Own the full lifecycle of critical services, from initial design and development through deployment and ongoing maintenance.

Ensure all solutions comply with security policies, data privacy regulations, and industry standards.

Lead debugging and troubleshooting efforts for complex production issues to minimize service disruptions.

Contribute to the technical roadmap and long-term strategy for Bazaarvoice's platform infrastructure.

Requirements

You must have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

You must possess a proven track record of developing and operating large-scale distributed systems.

You must have extensive experience with cloud platforms, particularly AWS, Azure, or GCP, and infrastructure as code methodologies.

You must demonstrate expertise in backend development with languages such as Java, Python, Go, or similar enterprise-grade technologies.

You must have a strong understanding of data storage solutions, including relational databases, NoSQL stores, and caching layers.

You must be proficient in designing and consuming RESTful APIs and event-driven architectures.

You must have experience with containerization and orchestration tools, especially Docker and Kubernetes.

You must have solid knowledge of software development lifecycle practices, including CI/CD, testing, and version control.

You must have a strong commitment to security, privacy, and compliance in all engineering activities.

Nice to have

Experience with microservices architectures and service meshes is preferred.

Knowledge of real-time data streaming platforms and messaging systems is a plus.

Familiarity with front-end technologies and full-stack development practices is beneficial.

Experience in regulated industries or environments requiring strict compliance standards is advantageous.

Background in building and supporting high-availability, low-latency systems is preferred.

Practical notes

This is a full-time position based in our Belfast office.

This role may require travel to other Bazaarvoice offices as needed for collaboration and planning.
