Fullstack SDET (Mobile & Backend)
Job description
About the role
Aspora is seeking a Fullstack SDET to own quality engineering across its mobile applications, web surfaces, and backend services. You will design and maintain automation frameworks that validate every release moving real money for customers across multiple jurisdictions. This position sits directly inside the engineering organization, collaborating with developers, product managers, and designers to define the reliability bar for a rapidly scaling global financial platform. The role demands a builder mindset capable of turning regulatory complexity into elegant, automated verification systems. You will act as the primary quality owner, driving test strategy from ideation through production observability. Your work will ensure that every feature, payment flow, and compliance check is verified with robust, maintainable automation. You will translate ambiguous requirements into concrete testable outcomes while balancing speed with reliability. This is a pivotal role in safeguarding the integrity of a high-stakes financial product used by a global user base.
Key facts
- 1 to 3 years of professional experience in QA or SDET roles with a focus on automating both mobile (Android/iOS) and backend testing for consumer-facing products.
- Strong proficiency in Java with demonstrated clean coding practices, object-oriented design, and hands-on experience building frameworks with Appium and REST Assured.
- Deep understanding of API design principles, data contract management, microservices architecture, and asynchronous messaging patterns (queues, cron, pub/sub).
- Practical debugging expertise using Charles Proxy for network interception, ADB for Android internals, log aggregation platforms, and observability tooling during production incidents.
- High ownership mindset: you treat quality gaps as personal responsibilities until resolved, driving fixes across team boundaries.
- Bias for execution and iteration: you prioritize shipping working automation over perfect design, learning from production feedback loops.
- Experience integrating automated suites into CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions preferred) with strategies for flakiness management and parallel execution.
- Ability to read and understand backend code (Java/Kotlin/Spring Boot or similar) to design effective integration and contract tests.
Nice to have
- Hands-on experience with performance and load testing tools such as JMeter or K6 for backend service benchmarking.
- Operational familiarity with message brokers like Kafka or Amazon SQS for testing event-driven architectures.
- Exposure to AWS cloud services (Lambda, ECS/EKS, RDS, CloudWatch) for infrastructure-aware test environment management.
- Previous experience in fintech, payments, or regulated environments where compliance and auditability shape testing requirements.
- Familiarity with mobile-specific testing challenges: simulator/device farm management, flaky UI test mitigation, and binary compatibility across OS versions.
- Interest or background in applying LLMs/Generative AI to test case generation, synthetic data creation, or flakiness analysis.
Practical notes
- This is an in-office role based at the Aspora Bangalore office; remote or hybrid arrangements are not indicated.
- The team operates across India, UK, UAE, EU, and US time zones; occasional collaboration across zones may be required.
- Aspora is backed by Sequoia Capital, Greylock Partners, Hummingbird Ventures, Y Combinator, and Global Founders Capital.
- The engineering team comprises 150+ people globally, emphasizing extreme ownership, radical candor, and customer impact.
- The role involves testing a regulated financial product; attention to compliance, data privacy, and audit trails is essential.
- ESOPs are part of the compensation package, aligning incentives with the company's long-term growth trajectory.

About the role
In this position, you will own the end-to-end quality strategy for a global financial platform, ensuring that every user interaction is validated through automated checks. You will partner closely with engineers to embed quality into the development lifecycle from the very first commit. Your automation suites will serve as the primary safety net that allows the team to move quickly without sacrificing reliability. You will design tests that run across diverse environments, simulating real user behavior on both mobile clients and backend services. This role requires you to be comfortable working with low-level debugging tools and high-level architectural discussions in the same day. You will be responsible for maintaining large-scale test suites that are resilient, readable, and scalable as the product evolves. You will contribute to defining coding standards and best practices for test engineering across the organization. Your insights will directly influence release decisions and risk assessments for new features. You will play a key role in reducing manual testing overhead by converting exploratory and regression scenarios into automated, maintainable test assets.
What you'll do
Architect and implement scalable test frameworks for mobile and backend systems using Java, Appium, REST Assured, and TestNG.
Design, develop, and maintain automated test suites that cover functional, integration, contract, and end-to-end scenarios across mobile and web platforms.
Collaborate with developers to define testable requirements, API contracts, and acceptance criteria for new features and releases.
Leverage Charles Proxy and ADB to debug complex network and device-level issues, correlating findings with logs and observability data.
Integrate and optimize automated test execution within GitHub Actions CI/CD pipelines, focusing on reliability, speed, and flakiness reduction.
Implement parallel test execution strategies to reduce feedback cycles and improve resource utilization across mobile and backend test suites.
Monitor test health and infrastructure performance using Grafana, Sentry, and Crashlytics to identify and resolve systemic issues quickly.
Write contract tests and consumer-driven tests to validate microservices interactions and asynchronous messaging flows involving queues and cron jobs.
Conduct in-depth performance and load testing using JMeter or K6 to validate backend service behavior under peak traffic conditions.
Evaluate and adopt new testing tools, frameworks, and methodologies to continuously improve the quality and efficiency of the testing process.
Partner with product managers and designers to ensure test coverage aligns with user journeys, compliance requirements, and business objectives.
Drive the creation of synthetic data strategies and test data management practices that support secure and realistic test scenarios.
Champion quality culture by mentoring engineers and stakeholders on testing best practices, test-driven development, and automation principles.
Participate in on-call rotations to triage production issues, using logs, traces, and automated health checks to diagnose regressions quickly.
Contribute to architectural reviews by providing a testing perspective on new services, APIs, and mobile features before implementation begins.
Maintain detailed documentation for test frameworks, test cases, and troubleshooting guides to ensure continuity and knowledge sharing.
Proactively identify and mitigate risks related to releases by analyzing test metrics, failure trends, and integration patterns.
Engage with the global engineering community by sharing insights, improving test standards, and collaborating on cross-regional quality initiatives.
Ensure all testing activities comply with financial regulations, audit requirements, and data protection standards relevant to the products tested.
Continuously refine test suites to balance coverage, execution time, and maintenance cost as the product and technology stack evolve.
