About the role
We are seeking a skilled Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to join our Voice Test Engineering team. In this role, you will play a part in ensuring the quality and dependability of our global communications platform. You will be responsible for designing automated testing frameworks and spearheading quality assurance initiatives for our voice infrastructure. Collaborating closely with engineering teams, you will enhance our continuous integration and delivery processes.

What you'll do
- Contribute to architectural decisions with an emphasis on testability, SIP call flow coverage, and performance metrics.
- Design and enhance the voice test automation framework utilizing Python and pytest, which includes creating Pydantic-typed service abstractions and orchestrating CI processes through Jenkins.
- Develop and sustain automated testing suites for various testing types, including smoke, regression, performance, and chaos testing across six AWS regions.
- Generate SIPp scenario XML files for intricate call simulations, covering aspects such as inbound and outbound routing, emergency calling, and multi-region failover scenarios.
- Lead initiatives in chaos engineering by employing AWS Fault Injection Simulator (FIS) and chaos-mesh to assess the resilience of systems like Asterisk, FreeSWITCH, Couchbase, Redis, PSLB, and INPS.
- Oversee defect tracking and triage processes in JIRA, ensuring effective communication regarding release readiness to all stakeholders.
- Provide mentorship to SDET III engineers, focusing on SIP testing methodologies, Python framework design, and management of Kubernetes environments.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify areas for improvement in testing processes and contribute to the development of best practices.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Proficiency in Python 3 at an expert level, with extensive experience in pytest and Pydantic models.
- In-depth knowledge of SIP protocols, including INVITE, BYE, ACK, CANCEL flows, SDP negotiation, RTP/SRTP media paths, and CDR validation.
- Practical experience in debugging SIP/VoIP technologies using tools such as SIPp, Wireshark, or VoIPMonitor.
- A strong history of creating automated testing frameworks that effectively minimize production defects.
- Familiarity with Asterisk or FreeSWITCH as components involved in testing processes.
- Advanced skills in Kubernetes, including EKS, kubectl, Helm, ArgoCD, and the ability to inspect pod logs.
- Solid experience with AWS services, including EC2, S3, SSM Parameter Store, and EKS.
Nice to have
- Experience with Couchbase or other NoSQL databases in testing scenarios is a plus.
- Familiarity with chaos testing frameworks such as chaos-mesh or AWS FIS would be beneficial.
- Knowledge of Kamailio or similar SIP proxy/load balancer technologies is advantageous.
- Experience with AI-assisted development tools like GitHub Copilot (Agent Mode) in the context of test development is a plus.
