About the role
Airbnb is seeking 2 Lead, Advanced Analytics to support our Guest App or Host App teams in shaping strategic business and product initiatives through detailed data analysis, experimentation, statistical modeling, and the development of reporting tools and metrics. The hire will own the end-to-end analytical lifecycle for key product areas, translating ambiguous business questions into rigorous analytical strategies. You will own the design and execution of studies that isolate causal impacts, ensuring decisions are grounded in robust evidence rather than intuition. This role involves owning the definition, quality, and governance of critical metrics that become the shared language across the business. You will act as a bridge between complex data science workflows and actionable product insights for stakeholders across the organization. The successful candidate will proactively identify opportunities to automate analytical processes using AI, freeing stakeholders to focus on higher-order strategic work. You will own the narrative behind the data, presenting findings and recommendations in a clear, compelling, and actionable way to senior leadership and cross-functional partners.

What you'll do
Analyze large and complex data sets to solve a wide array of challenging problems using different analytical and statistical approaches, focusing on high-impact areas in the Guest App or Host App.
Apply technical expertise with quantitative analysis, experimentation, data mining, forecasting, and the presentation of data to identify trends and patterns that can directly inform product and strategic decisions.
Collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, Finance, Marketing, Operations, Data Science, Advanced Analytics, Data and Analytical Engineering, Capacity Planning, and other cross-functional teams to provide actionable insights and align on key business questions.
Design, execute, and analyze experiments to measure feature impact and guide product iterations, leveraging causal methods when traditional randomized trials are not feasible.
Design and build metrics and dimensions from first principles to monitor product and business performance across the entire user journey.
Build sophisticated reporting and analytical tools using code and low-code approaches that empower stakeholders to make data-driven decisions with confidence.
Present findings and recommendations to stakeholders, including senior leadership, in a clear, concise, and visually compelling manner that drives alignment and action.
Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends and advancements in quantitative and qualitative data analysis techniques to continuously improve analytical rigor.
Leverage AI to automate repetitive tasks, enhance analytical workflows, and empower stakeholders across the business to access insights independently.
Champion data quality and governance by establishing robust data validation processes and documentation standards for all analytical outputs.
Own specific product metrics end-to-end, including problem identification, metric design, analysis, experimentation, and communication of results to stakeholders.
Partner with data engineering teams to ensure that data pipelines are optimized for advanced analytical use cases and support scalable measurement.
Develop and maintain a deep understanding of key business drivers and user behaviors to ensure analyses are contextualized and relevant to real product challenges.
Translate ambiguous business problems into well-defined analytical approaches, ensuring clear assumptions, methods, and actionable conclusions.
Requirements
6+ years of industry experience with a degree (Masters or PhD is a plus) in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Data Science, or Operations Research.
Prior experience in an advanced analytics or product data science role within a data-driven environment is mandatory.
Exceptional business acumen, strategic thinking skills, and the ability to conduct rigorous analysis and make informed judgments in the absence of complete information.
Excellent communication skills, capable of engaging with a variety of stakeholders and conveying complex concepts in an accessible and actionable manner.
Proven stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate and influence across functions, levels, and geographies in a distributed environment.
Experience partnering with product teams to drive action, providing expertise and direction on analytics, data science, experimental design, and measurement best practices.
Experience in analysis of A|B experiments and statistical data analysis, including hypothesis testing, confidence intervals, and interpretation of results.
Experience designing and building metrics from conception through implementation, including defining event schemas, creating data pipelines, and validating data quality.
Strong expertise in at least one programming language such as Python or R, and proficiency in SQL for data extraction, transformation, and analysis.
Prior experience with AI-assisted analytics tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, or similar platforms to enhance analytical workflows is required.
An agile, growth-minded approach, demonstrated through a history of driving projects from ideation to impact and learning quickly in fast-paced environments.
U.S. authorization to work is required, and sponsorship is not available for this role.
Nice to have
An advanced degree in a quantitative field or a related discipline.
Demonstrated experience with data visualization tools to communicate insights effectively to non-technical audiences.
Experience working in a distributed, asynchronous work environment with a high degree of self-direction.
Familiarity with the travel or hospitality industry and an understanding of marketplace dynamics.
Experience contributing to open source projects or publishing technical blogs that demonstrate analytical thinking.
Practical notes
This role is US-remote eligible, though it may include occasional work at an Airbnb offsite.
