The role you will fill is a Staff Software Engineer position within Community Support Engineering (CSE) in China, where you will be physically based and required to work from the location. CSE has increasingly become a key driver of enabling Airbnb's core business, responsible for the world-class technology, architecture, and solutions that power CS at Airbnb. The products and capabilities your team builds empower guests and hosts, CS agents, and operations teams around the world. What you'll do
You will collaborate with cross-functional partners to deeply understand business problems before developing project solutions, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives. You will lead the execution of projects across the full software development lifecycle, including technical design, implementation, testing, and deployment, ensuring solutions are high-quality, scalable, and performant. You will drive productive and constructive technical discussions with peers and cross-team technical leaders in the global collaborative working environment to ensure alignment with technical strategies across CS products and capabilities. You will tackle highly complex technical challenges, proactively identifying and mitigating potential risks during project execution to safeguard timelines and user impact. You will write exemplary and high-quality codes and design documents that set the standard for the team and influence broader engineering practices. You will advocate for and embed engineering best practices within the team, ensuring a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement. You will actively coach and mentor engineers across the CSP China team to foster growth and elevate technical capabilities through knowledge sharing and hands-on guidance. You will support team growth by participating in recruiting efforts and conducting interviews to attract top talent. You will promote and exemplify an engineering culture with inclusiveness, effective communication, and quality in every interaction. You will be a collaborative and supportive teammate who inspires and elevates the entire engineering organization through consistent contribution and leadership.
Requirements
You bring 9+ years of software development experience, including 2 years at Staff/ Tech Lead level, demonstrating a sustained track record of impact. You possess strong proficiency in at least one major backend programming language such as Java, Kotlin, Scala, or Python, and experience with modern front-end frameworks like React, Angular, or Vue.js is preferred but not mandatory. You have a proven track record of delivering end-to-end products in a collaborative environment across global teams and regions. You understand architectural patterns of large-scale web applications, including well-designed APIs, high-volume data pipelines, and efficient algorithms that support critical user flows. You can make data-driven decisions, articulate technical trade-offs clearly, and communicate effectively with cross-functional partners from diverse backgrounds. You are passionate about creating intuitive user experiences and maintain a keen interest in data systems and analytics that drive product decisions. You hold a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or demonstrate equivalent practical experience through your work history. You are fluent in both English and Chinese, enabling seamless collaboration across global and local stakeholders.
