About the role
Adyen is seeking a Merchant Onboarding Manager to join our Merchant Operations team in San Francisco. You will manage the transition of new merchants from the initial commercial agreement through to full operational activation. In this capacity, you will own the end-to-end experience of bringing new and existing clients online while ensuring all activities meet strict regulatory and scheme rules. You will act as a central coordinator, aligning multiple internal stakeholders to deliver seamless and accurate merchant setups. The role requires you to balance commercial objectives with compliance obligations to protect the integrity of our platform. You will use data to identify bottlenecks and drive improvements across the onboarding journey. Furthermore, you will be responsible for developing scalable processes that support Adyen's global growth ambitions. You will also provide expert guidance to internal teams on procedural and regulatory changes as they arise.

What you'll do
- Manage the full onboarding lifecycle, moving merchants from commercial handover to operational status.
- Collaborate with Sales, Compliance, Underwriting, and Account Management to structure setups for complex deals.
- Design onboarding workflows that align commercial goals with regulatory and scheme compliance standards.
- Act as a primary point of contact for merchants during the launch phase to ensure accurate configuration.
- Analyze data to provide insights and improve decision-making across the onboarding process.
- Train internal departments on procedural and regulatory changes.
- Develop and refine processes to support global scalability.
- Coordinate cross-functional resources to resolve issues that arise during go-live.
- Monitor key performance indicators to track the efficiency and quality of onboarding activities.
- Partner with technical teams to translate business requirements into system configurations.
- Ensure all documentation is complete, accurate, and aligned with internal and external audit standards.
- Support the development of playbooks that standardize best practices for future hires.
- Escalate risks or non-compliance issues promptly to appropriate leadership stakeholders.
- Continuously seek opportunities to streamline workflows and reduce time to activation.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in compliance, project management, or commercial roles.
- Ability to manage complex, end-to-end processes within a high-speed environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to coordinate across various internal teams and regions.
- Commercial mindset with the ability to balance business priorities against compliance mandates.
- Fluency in English.
- Demonstrated experience working with regulatory and scheme compliance frameworks.
- Proven track record of managing workflows that involve multiple dependencies.
- Capacity to work independently and make sound judgments with minimal supervision.
