About the role
You will author Adyen's Debit Card Payments strategy in NORAM, balancing product delivery with long-term platform scalability, resilience, and maintainability. You will lead by example, setting the right context and helping teammates do their best work through mentorship and clear feedback. You will coach and mentor a diverse team of software engineers, prioritizing psychological safety, continuous feedback, and long-term career development. You will foster a high-performing engineering culture built on ownership, collaboration, and continuous learning within the Card Payments domain. You will partner closely with Product Managers to translate business priorities into scalable technical solutions that serve enterprise merchants. You will guide architectural discussions, champion high engineering standards, and empower engineers to own technical solutions end-to-end from design to production.

Requirements
- You have a track record of leading and developing software engineering teams, fostering a culture grounded in ownership and collaboration.
- You enjoy coaching engineers through technical mentorship, regular feedback, and thoughtful career development conversations.
- You have a strong software engineering background building large-scale, distributed systems in Java or similar backend technologies.
- You are comfortable jumping into architecture reviews, unblocking technical hurdles, and guiding code reviews during complex, high-priority releases.
- You enjoy leading technical discussions, facilitating architectural decisions, and balancing engineering quality with business priorities from Product Managers.
- You thrive in cross-functional, globally distributed settings and adapt your communication thoughtfully across regions and cultures.
- You have a minimum of 3+ years of experience managing cross-functional engineering teams in a fast-paced technology environment.
- You have a minimum of 7+ years of experience in software development within a fast-paced tech environment.
- Experience building payment systems or working within the cards payments ecosystem, such as authorisation, routing, card schemes, or issuer/acquirer integrations, is highly desirable and considered a big plus.
