About the role
Adyen is seeking an Internal Control Officer to join our Amsterdam office and focus on financial risk management. You will work within our global Internal Control team to evaluate and enhance our financial reporting processes, ensuring we maintain controlled growth and meet all internal and external requirements. In this capacity, you will act as a key steward of our control environment, driving improvements that safeguard the organization. You will partner closely with finance and operations leaders to embed robust controls into daily workflows. Your work will directly influence the reliability of our financial data and the integrity of our decision-making. You will be responsible for translating complex regulatory expectations into practical control procedures. What you'll do
- Map and document existing financial control landscapes to establish a clear baseline for improvement initiatives.
- Design and implement targeted enhancements to internal control frameworks that address identified gaps and emerging risks.
- Lead independent evaluations of financial processes to verify adherence to established policies and regulatory standards.
- Perform detailed testing of transaction cycles to detect anomalies, weaknesses, or potential failures in current controls.
- Synthesize test results into actionable insights that guide corrective actions and continuous optimization efforts.
- Coordinate closely with internal and external auditors to streamline audit preparations and ensure timely completion of SOC1 and SOC2 engagements.
- Facilitate cross-functional workshops to align stakeholders on control objectives, risk appetite, and compliance expectations.
- Develop clear, concise documentation that explains control procedures and requirements to non-technical audiences.
- Monitor changes in regulations and industry best practices to proactively adjust the control environment accordingly.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for finance teams seeking guidance on control implementation and testing methodologies.
- Support the prioritization of control enhancements based on risk impact, resource availability, and business objectives.
- Collaborate with global counterparts to ensure consistent application of the internal control framework across all regions.
- Provide advisory services on control maturity assessments, helping leadership understand current and desired states.
- Contribute to special projects that strengthen governance, risk management, and compliance (GRC) across the organization.
Requirements
- Bring a minimum of 8 years of professional experience in risk management, internal control, or external audit to the role.
- Demonstrate a proven ability to design, implement, and scale internal control frameworks in complex environments.
- Show strong critical thinking skills and a drive to solve complex problems related to financial processes and controls.
- Exhibit capacity to work independently in a global, cross-cultural setting with diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Thrive in a fast-paced, unstructured environment with a proactive mindset that anticipates challenges before they arise.
- Possess strong communication and stakeholder management skills to influence without direct authority.
- Maintain a deep commitment to accuracy, transparency, and ethical conduct in all control-related activities.
- Have a solid understanding of financial regulations, reporting standards, and internal audit principles.

- Experience working within a Big 4 firm, applying structured methodologies to control and audit activities.
- Background in the financial services industry, where regulatory expectations and risk considerations are particularly high.
Skills & tools
- Demonstrated expertise in financial risk management, including the identification and mitigation of financial exposures.
- Hands-on experience with internal control framework design, such as COSO, COBIT, or similar governance models.
- Proven ability to coordinate audits, with a focus on SOC1 and SOC2 processes, from scoping to resolution.
- Advanced stakeholder management skills, including the ability to build trust, negotiate priorities, and facilitate decision-making.
- Familiarity with control automation tools and frameworks that enhance efficiency and reduce manual effort.
- Strong analytical skills to interpret financial data, assess control effectiveness, and present findings clearly.
- Proficiency in using collaboration platforms to maintain documentation and track control-related activities.
