Job description
About the role
At 6sense, we are on a mission to create an advanced Core Infrastructure platform that emphasizes zero-trust security, scalability across multiple regions, and highly automated self-service capabilities. The Staff Software Engineer will play a role in managing essential infrastructure components, including networking, identity management, compute platforms, and automation frameworks that underpin all services offered by the company.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Design and enhance core infrastructure systems utilizing Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Kubernetes to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
- Develop architectures that span multiple regions and accounts, ensuring secure service connectivity across Virtual Private Clouds (VPCs).
- Lead the transition to identity-based access, phasing out the use of shared credentials for enhanced security.
- Implement secrets management solutions using HashiCorp Vault, along with policy enforcement through Open Policy Agent.
- Create secure communication protocols between services and establish fine-grained Identity and Access Management (IAM) controls.
- tools such as Terraform, Pulumi, and Ansible to create infrastructure with reusable modules, promoting efficiency and consistency.
- Integrate provisioning workflows with CI/CD tools like GitHub Actions and Jenkins to streamline deployment processes.
- Oversee the lifecycle management of Kubernetes clusters (EKS), as well as databases like RDS, Aurora, and caching solutions such as ElastiCache.
- Automate processes for cluster upgrades, migrations, node scaling, and patching to maintain system integrity and performance.
- Develop region-agnostic infrastructure patterns and spearhead migration initiatives to enhance system flexibility.
- Construct and maintain observability systems using Prometheus, Grafana, the ELK stack, and Datadog for real-time monitoring and analysis.
- Establish resource tagging strategies, data classification policies, and measures for cost visibility to optimize resource management.
- Create self-service infrastructure workflows that enhance the developer experience through improved tooling and automation.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues across the entire technology stack, ensuring minimal downtime and disruption.
- Write high-quality production code, tools, and frameworks that adhere to best practices and standards.
Requirements
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in software engineering or a related field.
- At least 5 years dedicated to infrastructure engineering, demonstrating a deep understanding of the domain.
- Proficient hands-on experience with Amazon Web Services, Kubernetes, and either Terraform or Pulumi.
- Strong grasp of networking principles, including VPC configurations, routing, DNS, and connectivity solutions.
- Familiarity with IAM and access control systems to ensure secure operations.
- Proven experience in automating infrastructure workflows to enhance efficiency.
- A track record of building high-availability and scalable systems that meet business needs.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Go, or Bash for scripting and automation tasks.
Nice to have
- Experience with architectures that span multiple regions or accounts, enhancing system resilience.
- Background in automating infrastructure migrations and upgrades, particularly with EKS.
- Familiarity with secrets management tools like HashiCorp Vault to ensure secure data handling.
- Knowledge of policy-as-code frameworks such as Open Policy Agent for governance and compliance.
- Experience with observability tools, including Prometheus, Grafana, and Datadog, for monitoring system health.
- Exposure to data infrastructure technologies like Hadoop, Trino, or Spark to support data-driven initiatives.
- Familiarity with service mesh technologies such as Istio for managing microservices communication.
