About the role
Zutacore is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to take on the role of Chief Technology Officer (CTO). This position is pivotal in driving our engineering initiatives and leading the development of innovative mechanical solutions. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for overseeing engineering projects, managing technical teams, and ensuring that our products meet the highest standards of quality and performance. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, strategic vision, and leadership skills to guide our engineering efforts in a fast-paced environment.

What you'll do
- Lead the mechanical engineering department, providing strategic direction and technical oversight for all engineering projects.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product management, software engineering, and manufacturing, to ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems with other components.
- Design, analyze, and optimize mechanical systems and components, ensuring they meet performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness criteria.
- Develop and implement engineering processes and best practices to enhance productivity and innovation within the team.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the engineering department.
- Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments for new projects, providing insights and recommendations to the executive team.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes that may impact the engineering landscape and our product offerings.
- Oversee the prototyping and testing of mechanical designs, ensuring that products meet specifications and regulatory standards before mass production.
- Manage project timelines and budgets, ensuring that engineering deliverables are met on schedule and within financial constraints.
- Facilitate communication between engineering and other departments to ensure alignment on project goals and expectations.
- Represent the engineering team in executive meetings, providing updates on project status, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.
- Drive innovation by encouraging the exploration of new materials, technologies, and methodologies in mechanical design and engineering.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred.
- A minimum of 8 years of experience in mechanical engineering, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Proven track record of successfully managing engineering teams and delivering complex projects on time and within budget.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles, materials science, and manufacturing processes.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS, COMSOL).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and strategically.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
- Experience with project management methodologies and tools (e.g., Agile, Scrum, or similar).
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to mechanical engineering and product safety.
Nice to have
- Experience in the tech or electronics industry, particularly in product development and design.
- Knowledge of sustainability practices and eco-friendly design principles.
- Familiarity with software development processes and collaboration with software engineering teams.
- Previous experience in a startup environment or fast-paced technology company.
- Professional engineering license (PE) or equivalent certification.
