About the role
In this role, you will take charge of managing the bankruptcy processes related to manufactured home chattel loans. Your responsibilities will include ensuring compliance with relevant bankruptcy regulations, investor requirements, and internal protocols. You will serve as a key resource for borrowers, investors, attorneys, and the courts, guiding them through the complexities of the bankruptcy landscape.

What you'll do
- Oversee and manage a portfolio of bankruptcy cases, including those filed under Chapters 7, 11, 12, and 13.
- Regularly review electronic filings and court updates to stay informed about any new developments or changes in cases.
- Accurately update loan records to reflect the current bankruptcy status, including plan types and important court dates.
- Prepare and submit essential legal documents, such as Proofs of Claim and Payment Change Notices, to ensure compliance with legal standards.
- Handle reaffirmation agreements and manage the distribution of payments through trustees.
- Track case closures, whether through discharge, dismissal, or conversion, to ensure a smooth transition back to normal loan billing practices.
- Maintain strict adherence to federal bankruptcy laws, as well as guidelines set forth by the CFPB and investors.
- Collaborate with legal teams on motions, objections, and claims to ensure all legal aspects are addressed.
- Keep detailed and organized case files that include all pertinent documentation for each bankruptcy case.
- Reconcile payments made by trustees with loan servicing records and address any discrepancies that arise.
- Assist in audits and respond to investor inquiries by providing accurate and timely case information.
- Work closely with internal departments such as Collections and Loss Mitigation to determine appropriate loan treatment strategies.
- Communicate effectively with teams responsible for escrow, insurance, and reporting to manage payments and recoveries.
- Provide training and updates to internal teams regarding bankruptcy procedures and the status of ongoing cases.
- Identify areas for improvement in processes and compliance, proposing solutions to enhance efficiency.
- Contribute to initiatives aimed at automating bankruptcy tracking and communication processes.
- Generate reports on key performance indicators related to open cases and adherence to service level agreements.
Requirements
- A minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in bankruptcy servicing, default administration, or legal processing, particularly in consumer lending or mortgage/chattel servicing environments.
- A solid grasp of Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy procedures, including understanding payment plans and discharge processes.
- Proficiency in using loan servicing systems (such as FICS, MSP, or similar platforms) and court filing systems (like PACER/ECF).
- Excellent organizational skills, coupled with strong analytical and written communication capabilities.
- Ability to consistently apply investor, regulatory, and legal requirements in all aspects of work.
Nice to have
- Previous experience in servicing manufactured home chattel loans or indirect lending would be advantageous.
- Familiarity with the reconciliation of Proof of Claim documents and communication with trustees is a plus.
- Exposure to CFPB and OCC mortgage servicing standards, particularly as they pertain to personal property lending, is beneficial.
Skills & tools
- Familiarity with FICS, MSP, PACER, and ECF systems is essential for this role.
