This position is responsible for ensuring that all loan origination and servicing activities meet the required standards of regulatory compliance and internal governance. You will own the analysis of transactional and documentary data to detect deviations, anomalies, and potential regulatory breaches. In this capacity, you will serve as a control checkpoint, validating that procedures are followed correctly and consistently across the loan lifecycle. The role requires you to investigate operational workflows and provide objective assessments of their effectiveness and adherence to policy. You will translate complex regulatory language into practical review criteria that can be applied consistently during examinations. By partnering with cross-functional stakeholders, you will help translate findings into actionable improvements that strengthen the overall control environment. This position plays a critical role in safeguarding the integrity of the company's lending operations and protecting it from compliance failures.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Examine loan documentation and operational workflows to verify strict compliance with federal and state regulations, investor mandates, and internal policy standards.
- Perform detailed reviews of the loan closing process, payment application procedures, and default management activities to evaluate the effectiveness of existing controls.
- Scrutinize transaction data and activity logs to identify patterns, irregularities, and trends that may indicate control weaknesses or compliance issues.
- Analyze the root causes of identified discrepancies and assess the potential impact on regulatory standing and operational risk.
- Compile comprehensive reports that document review findings, highlight areas of non-compliance, and outline clear, actionable remediation recommendations.
- Interpret regulatory updates and translate them into specific criteria for inclusion in quality control checklists and review protocols.
- Collaborate closely with operations, servicing, and management teams to ensure that corrective actions are implemented in a timely and effective manner.
- Monitor the status of previously identified issues to confirm that remediation efforts have been completed successfully and that recurrence is prevented.
- Maintain detailed records of all reviews performed, decisions made, and communications exchanged regarding compliance matters.
- Support the risk management framework by providing objective, data-driven insights that enhance the integrity and reliability of internal control systems.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in mortgage lending or servicing compliance, quality control, quality assurance, risk management, or internal audit.
- Familiarity with state and federal regulations for home lending and servicing, as well as investor requirements.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Microsoft Forms.
- Strong analytical abilities to interpret data and draw meaningful conclusions.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication abilities.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States and eligibility to work will be verified using E-Verify.
