About the role

Zip is on the lookout for a Head of Business Data who will spearhead our Business Intelligence and Go-To-Market Data Science initiatives. This pivotal position is essential for shaping our data strategy, ensuring a cohesive source of truth across the organization, and laying the groundwork for our future AI projects. You will play a crucial role in connecting various departments, including GTM engines, finance, and our core Product Data Engineering team.

What you'll do

• Develop and implement Zip's comprehensive data strategy, detailing how our internal data ecosystem will facilitate growth, introduce new products, and support global expansion efforts.
• Manage the entire dashboarding and reporting framework, which includes executive-level insights, GTM leadership metrics, and operational views for customer-facing teams.
• Architect the data infrastructure necessary for enabling AI functionalities, ensuring that both usage and business data are structured for automated and intelligent outputs.
• Partner with Finance, Revenue Operations, and Product teams to standardize and monitor essential SaaS metrics through a well-defined semantic layer.
• Collaborate closely with the Product Data Engineering team to guarantee that the business data layer is integrated, efficient, and dependable.
• Lead the recruitment, mentoring, and development of a high-performing team comprising analytics engineers, BI developers, and data analysts.
• Generate precise and automated financial and operational reports for the executive team, Board of Directors, and external stakeholders.
• Establish a culture of data-driven decision-making across the organization by promoting the use of analytics and insights in strategic discussions.
• Drive initiatives that enhance data quality and accessibility, ensuring that all teams have the resources they need to make informed decisions.
• Act as a key liaison between technical teams and business leaders, translating complex data insights into actionable strategies.
• Monitor industry trends and emerging technologies to keep Zip at the forefront of data innovation and application.

Requirements

• A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in data analytics, business intelligence, or analytics engineering.
• At least 5 years in a senior leadership position with experience managing other managers.
• Comprehensive understanding of B2B SaaS business models, unit economics, and standard metrics, including enterprise SaaS billing, CRM systems (such as Salesforce), and financial data.
• Proven track record of collaborating with technical engineering teams while delivering commercial value to GTM and Finance leaders.
• Exceptional ability to simplify complex data concepts into clear, compelling narratives for C-level executives and investors.
• Extensive knowledge of the Modern Data Stack, particularly in analytics and business intelligence layers.
• Strong expertise in data modeling, dimensional modeling, and establishing a governed semantic layer for data governance.
• Strategic insight into structuring, modeling, and serving data for Large Language Models (LLMs) and integrated AI functionalities.
• In-depth understanding of the interplay between GTM systems (like Salesforce, Marketo, and customer success platforms) and back-office financial systems (such as NetSuite and Stripe).

Nice to have

• Experience in preparing a company's data infrastructure for public market readiness (IPO) or leading data diligence during late-stage fundraising efforts.
• Familiarity with regulatory compliance and data privacy standards relevant to data management and analytics.
• Previous involvement in cross-functional projects that required collaboration between data teams and other business units.

Skills & tools

• Proficiency in dbt, Looker, Tableau, and Sigma for data visualization and reporting.
• Experience with Salesforce and Marketo for CRM and marketing automation.
• Knowledge of financial systems such as NetSuite and Stripe for managing financial data.
