What you'll do
- Oversee the installation, configuration, and maintenance of servers and related hardware, ensuring high availability and reliability of systems.
- Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues to minimize downtime and enhance user experience.
- Implement security measures to safeguard sensitive data and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Collaborate with network engineers to maintain and optimize network infrastructure, including firewalls, routers, and switches.
- Develop and maintain documentation related to system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides for future reference.
- Assist in the planning and execution of system upgrades and migrations, ensuring minimal disruption to services.
- Provide technical support to end-users, addressing inquiries and resolving issues in a timely manner.
- Participate in on-call rotations to provide after-hours support as needed, ensuring continuous system availability.
- Work closely with project managers to support IT initiatives and contribute to the successful delivery of projects.
- Evaluate and recommend new technologies and tools to enhance system performance and operational efficiency.
- Conduct regular system audits and assessments to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions.
- Train junior staff members and provide mentorship to foster a collaborative and knowledgeable team environment.
Requirements
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in systems administration or a related field, with a strong understanding of server and network technologies.
- Proficiency in Windows and Linux operating systems, with experience in managing virtualized environments.
- Familiarity with cloud services such as AWS or Azure is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of networking concepts, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VPN technologies.
- Experience with scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Bash) for automation and system management tasks.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Security+, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, or similar are preferred.
- A proactive approach to learning and adapting to new technologies and industry trends.
Nice to have
- Experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
- Familiarity with containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes.
- Knowledge of backup and disaster recovery solutions to ensure data integrity and availability.
- Previous experience in a government or defense contracting environment is advantageous.
- Understanding of ITIL or similar frameworks for IT service management.
