About the role
WildBrain is seeking a skilled Contracts Manager to enhance its Business and Legal Affairs Team based in Toronto. This position is pivotal in managing the drafting, negotiation, and administration of various agreements related to content rights, development, and production. The ideal candidate will work closely with internal teams and external partners to ensure compliance with legal standards while supporting creative objectives.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Draft and manage a variety of production agreements, including rights acquisition and talent agreements for multiple properties.
- Supervise and review development and production documentation prepared by legal coordinators, providing guidance as necessary.
- Ensure the preparation of startup paperwork for various series, liaising with relevant guilds and unions such as WGC, WGA, ACTRA, and DGC.
- Stay informed about funding guidelines and agreements related to guilds and unions to ensure compliance.
- Collaborate with business teams to align creative goals with legal and guild requirements effectively.
- Present significant business and legal matters to the Senior Vice President of Business and Legal Affairs.
- Maintain organized records of contracts and agreements to facilitate easy access and review.
- Engage in negotiations with external partners to secure favorable terms for WildBrain.
- Provide training and support to junior team members on contract management processes.
- Participate in strategic planning sessions to align legal strategies with business objectives.
- Monitor industry trends and changes in legislation that may impact contractual obligations.
- Foster strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners to enhance collaboration.
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience in the entertainment or media sectors, specifically in a deal-facing capacity such as Business Affairs or Contracts Management.
- Background as a paralegal or contract administrator is advantageous.
- Exceptional proofreading abilities with a keen eye for detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of effectively engaging with both internal and external contacts.
- Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage shifting priorities.
- Commitment to providing excellent client service that aligns with business goals.
- Sound judgment and decision-making skills to navigate complex legal matters.

- Compensation for this role ranges from $78,000 to $85,000 CAD, reflecting experience and performance.
