About the role
You will own the end-to-end design of mobile-first product experiences that define how members interact with their health and performance data. You will translate ambiguous member needs into intuitive, trustworthy, and scalable interfaces across the WHOOP ecosystem. You will partner deeply with Product, Engineering, Research, Data Science, and Clinical teams to turn complex physiological insights into actionable guidance. You will leverage qualitative research and quantitative experimentation to validate design decisions and measure impact on member outcomes. You will balance long-term product vision with near-term execution while maintaining a high bar for quality and consistency. You will contribute to the evolution of WHOOP design systems, product principles, and design culture through mentorship and thoughtful critique. You will ensure every touchpoint in the member journey aligns with the mission to extend healthspan and unlock human performance.

What you'll do
- Lead end-to-end design of mobile-first product experiences across the WHOOP ecosystem, from early concept development through launch and iteration.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities, define product direction, and deliver meaningful outcomes for members.
- Translate complex member needs, business objectives, and technical constraints into intuitive, elegant, and scalable user experiences.
- Use qualitative research, quantitative data, experimentation, and product judgment to inform design decisions and measure impact.
- Balance long-term product vision with near-term execution, helping teams make thoughtful tradeoffs while maintaining a high bar for quality.
- Contribute to the evolution of WHOOP design systems, product principles, and design culture through collaboration, mentorship, and critique.
- Simplify intricate physiological and performance concepts into clear, trustworthy experiences that guide member action.
- Collaborate with Research and Data Science to integrate insights from sleep, strain, recovery, and readiness data into coherent product flows.
- Work with Clinical teams to ensure health-related features are accurate, responsible, and aligned with medical best practices.
- Define interaction patterns, information architecture, and visual hierarchy tailored to diverse member journeys and contexts.
- Prototype and iterate on interfaces using Figma and prototyping tools, validating concepts through usability testing and behavioral data.
- Leverage emerging AI-enabled design workflows to accelerate exploration, iteration, and documentation without compromising quality.
- Measure the impact of design changes through metrics and experimentation, advocating for evidence-based improvements.
- Mentor junior designers, share critiques, and elevate the collective design standard across the organization.
- Communicate design rationale effectively to diverse stakeholders, influencing decisions through storytelling and clear articulation of tradeoffs.
- Ensure designs are inclusive, accessible, and respectful of member privacy across all touchpoints.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience designing consumer digital products, including significant experience shipping mobile applications.
- A portfolio demonstrating strong end-to-end product design skills, visual craft, and measurable user or business impact.
- Experience leading complex cross-functional initiatives from discovery through execution.
- Strong systems-thinking skills and the ability to simplify complex concepts into intuitive user experiences.
- Deep understanding of interaction design, information architecture, visual design, and product strategy.
- Expertise with modern design tools and workflows, including Figma, prototyping tools, and emerging AI-enabled design workflows.
- Excellent communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to articulate design rationale and influence decisions across diverse stakeholders.
- Strong commitment to embracing and leveraging AI tools in day-to-day tasks, ensuring AI-assisted work aligns with the same high-quality standards as personal contributions.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States and willing to relocate to Boston, MA to work out of the WHOOP office.
- Must comply with WHOOP policies regarding confidentiality, data handling, and member privacy.
- Must be able to pass background checks and meet eligibility requirements as defined by E-verify participation.
- Must adhere to WHOOP compensation philosophy and equity terms as outlined in company policies.
- Must maintain alignment with WHOOP mission, values, and commitment to evidence-based health and performance insights.
- Must demonstrate integrity, accountability, and ownership in a fast-paced, mission-critical environment.
Nice to have
- Previous experience in health, performance, or wearable technology product design.
- Familiarity with physiological data streams such as heart rate variability, sleep stages, and strain metrics.
- Experience with design systems at scale and contribution to open design frameworks.
- Background in behavioral science or research methods that support member engagement and habit formation.
- Knowledge of healthcare data privacy considerations and best practices.
Practical notes
This role is based in the WHOOP office located in Boston, MA. The successful candidate must be prepared to relocate if necessary to work out of the Boston, MA office.
