This leader will own the end-to-end management of partnerships with academic medical centers, research institutions, and healthcare-focused commercial entities. The role translates complex scientific concepts into actionable business strategies that drive product integration and evidence generation. Success in this position means establishing WHOOP as a trusted partner in clinical research and digital health innovation. The director will work directly with cross-functional stakeholders to align partnership activities with corporate objectives. This position requires ownership of both the strategic vision and the operational execution of healthcare collaborations. The role balances rigorous scientific standards with the commercial realities of building scalable partnerships. Ultimately, the director ensures that partnership efforts directly contribute to WHOOP's mission and product roadmap.

What you'll do
Identify and evaluate strategic opportunities with academic medical centers, health systems, and research institutions to advance WHOOP's scientific objectives.
Build and maintain a robust pipeline of co-development and data-sharing initiatives that expand the physiological and clinical signal set of the platform.
Establish and manage relationships with medical device and diagnostics companies to evaluate potential for collaboration and integration.
Negotiate research, data-sharing, and technology integration agreements in collaboration with Legal and Regulatory to ensure full compliance with HIPAA, privacy, and security requirements.
Lead efforts to integrate WHOOP's platform with electronic health records and digital health ecosystems to support interoperability.
Evaluate the feasibility and strategic value of licensing, co-development, and exclusivity arrangements in partnership with Finance and Analytics.
Develop business cases and performance frameworks to measure the impact of partnerships on evidence generation and product development.
Present findings, pipeline updates, and strategic recommendations to executive leadership to guide investment decisions.
Manage ongoing partner relationships to ensure satisfaction, growth, and successful execution of joint initiatives.
Translate dense scientific and technical concepts into clear narratives for cross-functional teams and executive stakeholders.
Operate effectively in an environment of ambiguity while maintaining a balance between scientific rigor and commercial pragmatism.
Coordinate closely with Product, Data Science, Clinical & Medical Affairs, Regulatory, and Legal teams to align on goals and timelines.
Monitor the performance of existing partnerships and implement improvements based on recurring business reviews and outcome analysis.
Drive the adoption of WHOOP's platform in clinical settings through targeted integrations with EHR vendors and digital health platforms.
Establish metrics and reporting structures to track partnership success, including publications, evidence generation, and downstream product impact.
Provide thought leadership and strategic direction to shape the overall product and research partnership landscape at WHOOP.
Requirements
Must possess eight or more years of professional experience in relevant fields such as digital health, medical devices, or clinical research.
Demonstrated experience managing research collaborations with academic medical centers and clinical investigators is essential for success in this role.
Show a proven track record of managing, maintaining, and optimizing complex partner relationships over time.
Experience in arranging technology integration and health data sharing while adhering to privacy rules and compliance standards is required.
Must be capable of converting scientific concepts into compelling business cases that resonate with executive stakeholders.
Comfortable operating with uncertainty while balancing scientific rigor and commercial priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Exceptional communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills are mandatory for this position.
Ability to travel up to 10 percent of the time from the WHOOP office located in Boston, MA, with a willingness to relocate if necessary to maintain office presence.
Nice to have
An advanced degree such as an MPH or MBA, or a clinical or scientific background, is preferred but not mandatory for this role.
Practical notes
This engagement is full time.
Willingness to travel up to 10 percent of the time is required, with travel originating from the Boston, MA office.
Successful candidates must be prepared to relocate if needed to work from the Boston office.
