About the role

You will act as a native-language authority who confirms that accessibility survives translation intact and functions as intended for Portuguese speakers. You own the evaluation of localized web pages, applications, and documents to ensure linguistic accuracy and usability are preserved for assistive technology users. Your work guarantees that translated accessibility elements are not only technically valid but also natural and clear when read aloud in Portuguese. You will collaborate with internal QA teams to align findings with global standards and project expectations. Each assignment becomes your responsibility from review through clear, structured reporting. You are the definitive voice on whether content reads correctly and feels usable for a Portuguese screen reader user. Your findings directly influence whether content is fit for release in the target locale. This role requires you to combine cultural-linguistic insight with technical accessibility knowledge to protect the user experience.

What you'll do

Validate correct language codes in HTML and PDF metadata while identifying mixed-language content that lacks proper declarations.

Conduct in-language screen reader testing using Portuguese assistive tools to review translated accessible text, hidden elements, tooltips, error messages, alt text, and UI labels for accuracy and natural phrasing.

Evaluate captions, transcripts, and audio descriptions for synchronization, linguistic accuracy, and natural language in Portuguese, and confirm that multimedia controls are properly labeled.

Operate native-language screen readers such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, TalkBack, and Narrator to verify real-world interaction flows.

Log detailed defects with references to WCAG and PDF-UA guidelines, supported by screenshots or recordings, and classify findings by severity.

Participate in review calls with the QA Lead to discuss findings, clarify issues, and align on remediation expectations.

Confirm that user interface components are correctly labeled and navigable when accessed through assistive technology in Portuguese.

Assess document structures, reading order, and semantic tagging to ensure logical navigation for users relying on assistive technology.

Verify that form controls have associated, accurate labels and error messages that are announced correctly by screen readers.

Check that dynamic content updates, such as notifications or status changes, are properly exposed to assistive technology in the local language.

Review translated audio and video elements to ensure that descriptions and captions reflect the intended meaning without cultural distortion.

Support quality assurance by reproducing issues, testing fixes, and confirming that resolved defects meet accessibility and linguistic standards.

Contribute to the improvement of internal checklists and testing approaches based on observed real-world usage patterns.

Communicate testing progress and blockers clearly to ensure that project timelines remain realistic and achievable.

Requirements

You must be a native or near-native speaker of Portuguese with authoritative judgment on naturalness and understandability of translated content.

You must have demonstrable hands-on experience testing digital content using assistive technology.

You must possess working knowledge of WCAG 2.1 and WCAG 2.2 at the AA level.

You must understand and be able to apply EN 301 549 requirements to evaluate compliance in European contexts.

You must be able to assess content from a native-speaker accessibility perspective, focusing on real-world usability for screen reader users who speak Portuguese, not only on technical compliance.

You must have reliable access to relevant devices and operating systems to replicate real-world usage scenarios in the Portuguese locale.

You must be able to interpret and follow detailed test checklists and scope documents for each engagement.

You must be comfortable reporting findings in a structured defect log and participating in discussions with QA leads and project stakeholders.

Nice to have

Strong written communication skills in English for defect reporting and general communications.

Experience with PDF accessibility testing using PAC 3 or Adobe Acrobat Pro Accessibility Checker.

Familiarity with internationalization, localization, and translation workflows and an understanding of how accessibility can be affected during format conversion.

Practical notes

Assignments are project-based with clearly defined scope documents, test checklists, and agreed turnaround timelines provided before work begins.

You will not be expected to remediate or fix issues; your role is strictly testing and reporting.
