Italian Accessibility Tester
Job description
Italian Accessibility Tester at Welo Global.
About the role
You will act as a native Italian accessibility expert validating the accuracy and usability of localized digital content for Italian users. This role focuses on ensuring that translated interfaces, documents, and multimedia remain perceivable, operable, and understandable for people using assistive technology in Italian. You will own the in-language review of accessibility elements, confirming that they are not only technically correct but also naturally phrased and culturally appropriate for Italian speakers. Your work will directly support Welocalize clients by catching accessibility failures that generic automated checks can miss. You will collaborate remotely with QA leads and project managers to clarify scope, discuss findings, and align on remediation expectations. Every assignment will require you to combine technical standards knowledge with real-world user behavior in Italian contexts. Ultimately, your reviews will help ensure that digital experiences are inclusive, compliant, and linguistically authentic for Italian audiences.
Key facts
What you'll do
Evaluate Italian language metadata in HTML and PDF files to confirm correct language codes and detect mixed-language content lacking proper declarations.
Conduct in-language screen reader testing using Italian-compatible assistive tools, reviewing hidden elements, tooltips, error messages, alt text, and UI labels for natural phrasing and clarity.
Review multimedia components to verify that captions, transcripts, and audio descriptions are accurate, properly synchronized, and read naturally in Italian.
Assess the accessibility and labeling of multimedia controls to ensure they are understandable through Italian screen reader output and aligned with user expectations.
Log detailed defect reports that include WCAG and PDF/UA references, clear screenshots or screen recordings, and consistent severity ratings.
Participate in review calls with the QA Lead to discuss findings, clarify edge cases, and refine the understanding of Italian-specific accessibility challenges.
Validate that translated content remains perceivable and operable across a range of devices and operating systems typical for Italian users.
Confirm that user interface elements such as menus, buttons, forms, and error states are logically announced by assistive technologies in Italian.
Support the identification of localization-specific accessibility risks that emerge during format conversions or platform migrations.
Provide feedback on test checklists and scope documents to improve future Italian-language testing cycles and reduce ambiguity for you and the team.
Contribute to Welocalize's quality standards by consistently applying accessibility guidelines and documenting results in a structured defect tracking system.
Requirements
You must be a native or near-native speaker of Italian with expert-level written and verbal fluency.
You must be the authoritative voice on whether translated content reads naturally and is understandable for Italian users.
You must have demonstrable hands-on experience testing digital content using assistive technology in Italian.
You must possess working knowledge of WCAG 2.1 and WCAG 2.2 Level AA success criteria as they apply to Italian interfaces.
You must understand how EN 301 549 requirements intersect with Italian accessibility expectations and legal contexts.
You must be able to evaluate content from a native-speaker accessibility perspective, focusing on real-world usability for Italian screen reader users, not only on technical checklists.
You must have reliable access to a range of devices and operating systems to replicate real-world usage scenarios for the Italian locale.
You must be comfortable working remotely and following structured test checklists and scope documents without direct supervision.
You must be able to communicate clearly in English for defect reporting and general project coordination, even if Italian is your primary language.
Nice to have
Strong written communication skills in English to ensure defect reports and messages are clear and professional.
Hands-on experience with PDF accessibility testing using PAC 3 or Adobe Acrobat Pro Accessibility Checker for Italian-language documents.
Familiarity with internationalization, localization, and translation workflows and an understanding of how accessibility elements can be affected during format conversion.
Personal use of assistive technology in your daily life, providing lived experience that enhances your testing perspective.
Practical notes
Assignments are project-based with clearly defined scope documents, test checklists, and agreed turnaround timelines provided before work begins.
Scope for each engagement will specify the exact language, content type, pages or documents in scope, and priority areas for testing.
You will not be expected to remediate or fix issues; your role is strictly testing and reporting.
If checklist items are unclear or a finding falls outside the defined scope, you are expected to flag these concerns, and Welocalize will address them appropriately.
Welocalize provides access credentials and a structured test plan for each engagement, while you supply your own device and assistive technology setup appropriate to the Italian locale.
Commonly used tools in this role include screen readers such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver on macOS and iOS, TalkBack on Android, and Narrator on Windows, paired with browsers according to Italian usage patterns. You will review caption and transcript files in formats such as .srt and .vtt using native video players. For PDF accessibility, you may use PAC 3 or Adobe Acrobat Pro Accessibility Checker when required by the engagement. Defect logging is typically done through Jira bug tracking systems.
