What you'll do

• Provide expert legal advice on a wide range of banking and financial services issues, including regulatory compliance, contract negotiations, and risk management.
• Draft, review, and negotiate various legal documents, including contracts, service agreements, and policies to ensure they align with the bank's objectives and legal standards.
• Conduct legal research and analysis to stay updated on changes in laws and regulations that may impact the bank's operations and strategic initiatives.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including compliance, risk management, and business development teams, to identify and mitigate legal risks associated with new products and services.
• Represent the bank in discussions with regulatory authorities, ensuring that all communications are handled professionally and effectively.
• Assist in the development and implementation of internal policies and procedures to promote compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
• Provide training and guidance to staff on legal and regulatory matters to foster a culture of compliance within the organization.
• Support the bank's corporate governance initiatives by advising on board matters, shareholder agreements, and other corporate legal issues.
• Manage external legal counsel when necessary, ensuring that the bank receives high-quality legal services while controlling costs.
• Monitor and report on legal developments and trends that may affect the banking sector, providing insights and recommendations to senior management.
• Participate in cross-functional projects and initiatives, contributing legal expertise to support the bank's strategic goals and objectives.
• Assist in dispute resolution processes, including negotiations and settlements, to protect the bank's interests in legal matters.

Requirements

• A law degree from a recognized institution, with a valid practicing certificate in Hong Kong.
• A minimum of 5 years of relevant legal experience, preferably in the banking or financial services sector.
• Strong understanding of banking regulations, compliance requirements, and risk management practices.
• Excellent drafting and negotiation skills, with a keen eye for detail and the ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify legal issues and propose practical solutions.
• High level of integrity and professionalism, with a commitment to maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards.
• Proficiency in both English and Chinese (Cantonese or Mandarin) is essential for effective communication with stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience working in a fintech or digital banking environment, with an understanding of emerging technologies and their legal implications.
• Familiarity with data protection and privacy laws, particularly in relation to financial services.
• Previous experience in corporate governance and compliance matters within a banking context.
