Senior Product Manager, Risk Operations
Job description
About the role
Senior Product Manager, Risk Operations Platform
We are seeking a Senior Product Manager to architect the internal systems that define how Wave operates. This role is centered on constructing a robust operational platform for our Risk, Fraud, Compliance, and Payments teams. Your primary objective will be to replace disjointed, manual processes with a unified digital infrastructure. Success in this position will be measured by improved operational efficiency, stronger internal controls, and enhanced support for our customers. You will report impact across the organization, influencing how smoothly and securely our business runs.
Wave exists to empower small businesses, strengthening the communities where they operate. We function best in a dynamic environment fueled by innovation. Our platform provides the tools necessary for success, ensuring every team member remains connected and effective. True excellence here is defined by courage, rapid learning, and the open exchange of knowledge.
This position is a foundational 0-to-1 role with enterprise-wide significance. Initially, you will assess our current technological landscape and oversee the retirement of outdated systems. Simultaneously, you will collaborate closely with Engineering, Risk, Compliance, Data, Finance, Customer Support, and Product to establish a resilient operational baseline. This foundation will allow Wave to expand its payments capabilities with confidence and scalability. Although the focus is on backend systems, the end-user experience remains paramount. The platforms you develop will shape customer onboarding, case resolution, and the preservation of trust throughout every interaction.
Role and Responsibilities
You will own the strategy and execution of the internal tools used by Risk, Fraud, Compliance, Support, Finance, and Payments Operations. This involves designing intake systems that unify data from various sources into a single, actionable perspective. You will build the decisioning infrastructure that links business rules, analytical models, and compliance policies.
A core part of your work will involve establishing standardized review practices. This ensures that Risk, Compliance, and Support teams handle cases consistently and efficiently. You will work alongside Engineering and Data to decommission legacy technology and guide teams toward modern platform services. Collaboration with Finance and Payments Operations will be essential to ensure that reporting and internal controls align with business objectives.
You will also own key instrumentation and dashboards. These tools will highlight bottlenecks and risk patterns within the customer journey. Your insights will guide the product roadmap, ensuring operational tools reflect the realities of daily workflows. Ultimately, you will enable systems that keep customer onboarding seamless and issue resolution transparent from start to finish.
Key Qualifications
The ideal candidate brings three years of experience in product management for risk, fraud, or compliance operations. You must possess a deep understanding of payments processing and the movement of capital between businesses. Your expertise should include designing controls that satisfy regulatory requirements without creating excessive friction for users.
You are comfortable using data queries and monitoring tools to assess platform health and performance. Clear communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders is mandatory. You must excel at influencing priorities and decisions without relying on formal authority.
Additional Experience and Skills
Experience in regulated financial services environments is highly valuable. A background in building internal platforms for risk, fraud, or compliance functions is a significant advantage.
You will utilize a specific set of tools to execute this vision. These include Jira and Confluence for project management, SQL for data analysis, and Python for scripting. Looker will be used for business intelligence, and Segment for tracking customer data. You will work directly with systems focused on Risk, Fraud, Compliance, Payments Operations, Finance, Customer Support, and Data. This role requires a strong foundation in Product Management principles.
