About the role
Verkada is seeking a finance professional to join our Strategic Finance and Business Operations team. You will serve as an analytical partner to Marketing leadership, helping to guide budget allocation, performance measurement, and operational strategy at our pre-IPO company. In this capacity, you will translate high-level business goals into actionable financial plans and monitor execution against key commitments. You will own the development of scenario models that clarify trade-offs and support data-driven decisions for growth initiatives. You will establish clear metrics to evaluate the efficiency and impact of marketing investments across the entire funnel. This role requires comfort with process improvement and the ability to design reporting structures that provide timely visibility into performance. You will work closely with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure that assumptions are documented and insights are reproducible. The successful candidate will act as a trusted advisor, balancing rigorous analysis with pragmatic solutions to support the evolving needs of the business.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Partner with Marketing leadership to construct and manage the annual operating plan, including forecasting, headcount planning, and vendor management.
- Define and own the end-to-end budget process, ensuring alignment between marketing initiatives and corporate financial targets.
- Analyze performance of digital acquisition channels and campaigns, identifying drivers of efficiency and areas for improvement.
- Develop dashboards and reports that track marketing ROI, pipeline contribution, and budget versus actuals at a granular level.
- Lead special projects to streamline marketing operations, such as automation of financial reviews or optimization of vendor spend.
- Collaborate with Sales and Product teams to assess the financial implications of new growth experiments and channel strategies.
- Establish governance frameworks for marketing metrics, ensuring consistency in definitions and data quality over time.
- Translate business requirements into structured data models and financial logic that can be maintained by the finance team.
- Conduct variance analysis on a recurring basis, explaining differences between plan, forecast, and actual results.
- Drive adoption of financial best practices across the Marketing organization to improve decision-making and accountability.
- Support the preparation of board-level materials related to marketing performance and key growth metrics.
- Evaluate new tools or vendors aimed at enhancing marketing measurement and attribution capabilities.
- Act as the central point of contact for any finance-related inquiries impacting the Marketing function.
- Contribute to the development of long-term financial scenarios that inform strategic priorities and resource allocation.
Requirements
- 6-8+ years of progressive experience in high-growth environments, such as Strategic Finance, Business Operations, Growth roles, investment banking, management consulting, or investing.
- Ability to build complex financial models and translate business concepts into structured data frameworks.
- Strong attention to detail combined with the ability to prioritize critical tasks.
- Comfort navigating ambiguity and managing competing priorities in a fast-paced startup.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for stakeholder management across all levels of the organization.
- Must be willing and able to work onsite five days per week.
- Proven track record of managing multiple projects with tight deadlines while maintaining high standards of accuracy.
- Demonstrated experience working with large datasets and deriving insights to inform business decisions.
- Familiarity with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial reporting standards.
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams to solve complex business problems.
- Strong quantitative background and comfort working with numbers at scale.
- Willingness to adhere to company policies and procedures while supporting a high-growth environment.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive financial information with integrity.
Nice to have
- Prior experience partnering with or working on data-driven Growth teams.
- Fluency in database concepts, SQL, and modern BI tools.
