About the Role
The Senior Manager, Card Credit Risk position is a critical leadership role within Upgrade's Card Credit Risk team. The primary responsibility of this position is to serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for card line management, owning the end-to-end strategy for credit line increases (CLI), decreases (CLD), and closures. In this capacity, the individual will design, develop, and continuously evolve policies for both early-stage and mature accounts. This requires leveraging a comprehensive blend of internal and external data, combined with astute business judgment and strategic foresight.
The role demands a data-driven and hands-on approach to managing the card portfolio. The Senior Manager will be responsible for balancing revenue opportunity against credit losses to ensure the delivery of holistic business outcomes. This involves close collaboration with business, product, and various partner teams to ensure integrated solutions that enhance overall portfolio performance. The ultimate goal is to ensure predictable and strong returns from Upgrade's Card product while advancing the company's mission to help customers build a better financial future.
What You'll Do
The successful candidate will be responsible for a wide range of strategic and analytical functions related to card line management. Key responsibilities include:
- Serving as the definitive SME for Card line management, specifically regarding CLI, CLD, and closures.
- Taking an integrated view of the business to develop CLI eligibility and increase amount policies, carefully balancing the pursuit of revenue opportunities against the potential for credit losses.
- Owning the strategy and execution of Credit Line Decrease (CLD) and closure policies, including defining triggers and appropriate treatments.
- Monitoring the performance of the CLI program across various segments and portfolio dimensions to identify emerging trends and policy effectiveness.
- Designing, deploying, and refining policy enhancements based on analysis of internal data, industry trends, macroeconomic conditions, and sound business judgment.
- Partnering with the data science team to develop, refine, and enhance line assignment models, with a specific focus on risk assessment and utilization management.
- Designing and deploying robust testing frameworks to inform future modeling efforts, policy decisions, and strategic business insights.
- Evaluating, designing, and launching specific tests and innovations related to CLIs. This may include testing new timing strategies for CLI offers, reactive CLI interventions, or interactive CLI approaches.
- Partnering cross-functionally to facilitate effective CLI program outcomes and drive positive business results, such as improved income collection.
- Collaborating with business, product, marketing, and other key stakeholders to deliver holistic and integrated business outcomes that align with company objectives.
Requirements
Upgrade seeks a candidate with a proven track record in data-driven decision-making within a fast-paced financial environment. The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experience:
- Bringing a minimum of 5-7+ years of professional experience in consumer finance, management consulting, or other highly data-intensive backgrounds.
- Demonstrating substantial experience with credit risk management and analytics, with a specific focus on credit line management or CLI policy within the context of a credit card business.
- Showcasing strong analytical capabilities and the ability to translate complex data sets into clear, actionable, and strategic recommendations for senior stakeholders.
- Exhibiting a high level of proficiency in core data analysis tools and programming languages, specifically SQL for data extraction and manipulation, Excel for analysis and reporting, and Python for more advanced modeling and automation tasks.
- Demonstrating familiarity with Large Language Models (LLMs) and the broader landscape of AI-enabled innovation and its applications within the financial services sector.
- Proving the ability to identify nuanced business intuition and insights hidden within data, and effectively communicate these findings to drive decision-making.

- Prior professional exposure to LLMs and AI-enabled innovation, with an understanding of how these technologies can be practically applied to credit risk management and line management strategies.
