About the role
Position Overview
This role leads the instructional health of entire schools. The Dean of Curriculum & Instruction drives teacher development and student success through rigorous data systems and a strong school culture. You will partner with principals and instructional leaders to deliver an academically rigorous and joyful experience for every student.
Core Responsibilities
You will set data analysis agendas that uncover growth patterns and translate findings into team action plans. Designing feedback frameworks is central to turning classroom observations into concrete teacher development steps. You will champion assessment cycles, coordinating quality assurance, scheduling, and preparation with operations leadership. Planning and delivering high-quality professional development is a key duty, building staff fluency in Uncommon curricular systems and essential pedagogy.
Owning school-wide data response systems ensures targeted reteach paths and action steps move student progress forward. You will coordinate grade-level or content-area team meetings to align instruction with school-wide trends and leadership goals. Curating staff-wide professional development uses walkthrough data and school action steps to maintain alignment across teams. Supporting regional initiatives includes facilitating data analysis, curriculum development, and summer programming.
Essential Qualifications
You must hold a Bachelor's Degree and bring three or more years of teaching experience with proven student growth. Demonstrated instructional coaching abilities must advance teacher practice and measurable student outcomes. You will manage complex information systems and construct academic structures that guide teaching teams effectively. Clear communication skills are required to navigate difficult conversations while holding teams accountable with care and respect.
A passionate commitment to the Uncommon mission is mandatory. You must show flexibility to address school needs and diverse student populations. Thriving in fast-paced settings defines this role, along with the ability to work autonomously and follow direction as priorities shift.

Detailed Compensation and Benefits
Compensation for this role ranges from $87,000 to $130,000. Most candidates who meet job description requirements will receive an offer between $87,000 and $97,400. Starting pay is determined using various factors, including relevant professional development, education certifications, and tenure with Uncommon Schools.
You will receive generous paid time off, including sick time, paid holidays, and 10 weeks of paid breaks spread across Spring, Winter, and Summer.
