About the role
The Senior Analyst, Financial Planning & Analysis at Uncommon Schools is responsible for owning complex financial models that directly guide critical network-level decisions regarding growth, staffing, and multi-variable scenarios. You will translate intricate and often disparate data into clear, compelling narratives for school leaders, regional teams, and senior executives to ensure resources are allocated effectively and growth is planned strategically. This role requires you to critically assess model assumptions, conduct rigorous scenario and sensitivity analysis, and communicate the implications clearly to Finance leadership. Defining, monitoring, and explaining key financial metrics that predict and influence the performance of schools, regions, and the organization as a whole is central to this position. You will own the preparation of accurate monthly and ad hoc financial reports, including deep variance analysis and clear explanations of key drivers behind performance. A core part of this role is creating clear summaries, visuals, and other materials that translate complex financial information for internal stakeholders at all levels. You will deliver accurate financial reports to senior leaders, charter authorities, state and federal agencies, and other external audiences with precision and clarity. Communicating complex financial concepts in plain language to audiences with varying levels of financial expertise is essential for success in this role. You will maintain reliable analysis outputs by ensuring data accuracy and alignment across all Finance tools and reporting systems.

What you'll do
You will own complex financial modeling and cross-regional analysis to support strategic planning and decision-making for the network. This includes evaluating network growth, staffing strategies, and multi-variable scenarios to determine the most effective paths forward. You will critically assess model assumptions, conduct scenario and sensitivity analysis, and communicate the implications to Finance leadership for informed decision-making. Defining and monitoring key financial metrics that predict and influence the performance of schools, regions, and the organization is a core responsibility of this position. You will prepare accurate monthly and ad hoc financial reports, including variance analysis and clear explanations of the key drivers behind financial results. You will create clear summaries, visuals, and other materials that translate financial information for internal stakeholders at all levels of the organization. You will deliver accurate financial reports to senior leaders, charter authorities, state and federal agencies, and other external audiences as required by the role. You will maintain reliable analysis outputs by ensuring data accuracy and alignment across Finance tools and reporting systems for decision support. You will support the setup and maintenance of dashboards and reporting views in Adaptive Insights and related tools to streamline financial reporting. You will identify opportunities to standardize processes, automate routine tasks, and reduce manual rework across the Finance function to improve efficiency. You will collaborate with Finance leadership to strengthen quality control and improve overall workflows for financial analysis. You will participate in organization-wide projects that drive key priorities, particularly those requiring sophisticated financial modeling and analysis. You will support ad hoc analysis and special projects as needed to meet evolving business needs for the schools and network. You will partner with cross-functional teams to integrate financial insights into operational and strategic initiatives. You will leverage data visualization tools to enhance the clarity and impact of your financial presentations and reports. You will stay current with best practices in FP&A and contribute to the continuous improvement of the Finance function's capabilities.
Requirements
A Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field is mandatory for this position. You must possess 3-4 years of professional experience, with at least 1-2 years in financial analysis, budgeting, or accounting roles. A strong understanding of finance principles, including financial modeling and core accounting concepts, is essential for success in this role. You must have advanced Excel skills to build and maintain complex financial models and perform detailed analysis. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are necessary to structure and tackle ambiguous questions without clear precedent. Meticulous attention to detail and strong follow-through on deliverables are required to ensure accuracy and reliability. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are mandatory for conveying complex information to diverse audiences. Comfort learning new tools and systems with strong digital literacy is necessary to adapt to Uncommon's technology stack. You must be able to commit to working in-person at our Central Office in downtown Manhattan for at least three days each week. You must be authorized to work in the United States and require no sponsorship for employment now or in the future.
Nice to have
Experience with Adaptive Insights or other FP&A platforms is preferred for this role. An interest in leveraging automation and AI-enabled tools to improve efficiency and insight is a distinct advantage. Experience working in mission-driven or nonprofit organizations aligns well with Uncommon Schools' culture and mission.
Practical notes
This role requires a commitment of at least three days per week in our Central Office located at 100 Church Street in downtown Manhattan. The compensation range for this role is $78,800-$92,700, with typical new hires who fully meet qualifications starting at $83,400. Compensation determinations consider relevant professional experience and tenure with Uncommon Schools. Current staff members are not subject to salary caps within this range. This is a full-time position eligible for benefits. Uncommon Schools is an in-person organization, and this role requires physical presence in the office.
