Position Overview
This role centers on leading a comprehensive community pop-up kitchen initiative for secondary students. The primary focus is on advancing technical culinary abilities, financial planning, and the design of innovative menus. The project emphasizes sustainability, professional kitchen management, and the exploration of diverse flavor profiles. The position requires a full academic year commitment, concluding with a public event that showcases student learning.
Schedule and Time Commitment
The core instructional period runs from September through late May. Direct coaching with students is required on two specific days each week, with a consistent one-hour session allocated to each day. Additional time outside of these sessions may be necessary for event preparation and student support.
Key Responsibilities
- Curriculum Leadership: Architect and execute a project timeline that outlines weekly prep expectations and practice milestones for the duration of the school year.
- Instructional Delivery: Conduct scheduled meetings with students to define learning objectives, ensuring that all menu concepts balance creative flavor profiles with foundational kitchen management.
- Community
Engagement: Partner with internal and external stakeholders to organize community tasting events. These events are designed to celebrate student work and reflect relevant cultural contexts.
- Resource Management: Develop and manage ingredient lists and project budgets. This includes instructing students on fiscal awareness and responsible resource allocation within the pop-up framework.
- Pedagogical Guidance: Facilitate iterative tasting and feedback sessions. Use this input to guide students in refining dishes and enhancing their decision-making abilities.
- Program Documentation: Track session outcomes and attendance records. Modify activities to support diverse learners and ensure individual progress.
- Safety and Compliance: Uphose professional standards for safety and cleanliness at all times. Ensure all activities meet the operational expectations of a professional kitchen environment.
- Project Management: Monitor all program deadlines to ensure the successful launch of the culminating event. Adjust logistics as necessary to meet final objectives.
Required Qualifications and Attributes
- Subject Matter Expertise: Demonstrated mastery of advanced culinary techniques, menu development, and budget-conscious cooking.
- Teaching Commitment: A proven ability to instruct and coach students during the designated hours, specifically on the scheduled days throughout the academic year.

- Logistical Reliability: The ability to maintain consistent transportation to the designated Boston location for all scheduled program days.
Compensation and Benefits
The selected candidate will receive an annual stipend of $6,052.00. Payment is structured based on experience and contracted hours, with disbursements occurring semi-monthly. Compensation may be adjusted if the incumbent ceases fulfilling the contracted responsibilities prior to the conclusion of the term.
