What you'll do

• Maintain accurate financial records by managing accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely processing of invoices and payments.
• Prepare monthly financial statements and reports, providing insights into financial performance to assist management in decision-making.
• Conduct regular reconciliations of bank statements and general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy and identify discrepancies.
• Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts, collaborating with various departments to gather necessary data.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations as well as internal policies by conducting regular audits and reviews.
• Support the year-end closing process by preparing necessary documentation and assisting with external audits.
• Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for cost savings or revenue enhancement.
• Collaborate with team members to streamline accounting processes and improve overall efficiency within the department.
• Provide support during the implementation of new accounting software or systems, ensuring a smooth transition and proper training for staff.
• Respond to inquiries from management and external stakeholders regarding financial information and reporting.
• Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with accounting standards and best practices.
• Contribute to special projects as assigned, leveraging financial expertise to support organizational goals.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
• A minimum of 2 years of relevant accounting experience, with a preference for candidates who have worked in the utility or energy sector.
• Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel, with the ability to analyze and manipulate financial data effectively.
• Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and regulatory requirements.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting and data entry.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial information.
• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to convey financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and integrity in handling financial information.

Nice to have

• Certification as a CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CMA (Certified Management Accountant) is a plus.
• Experience with utility accounting or knowledge of the energy sector will be advantageous.
• Familiarity with ERP systems and advanced financial modeling techniques.
