About the role
Twilio is seeking a Software Architect (L6) to define and drive architectural vision, strategy, and alignment across multiple products and domains at company scale. In this role, you will set long-term technical vision, establish architectural guardrails, and ensure coherence across distributed systems and platforms. You will solve the most complex and ambiguous technical challenges at platform and company-wide scale while mentoring and guiding principal and staff engineers. This position requires partnership with product, engineering, and executive leaders to shape strategic direction and technical investments. You will elevate the technical standard for Twilio company-wide and drive cross-organizational initiatives that deliver foundational technical impact. As a senior-most technical leader, you will own the deep technical decisions that shape how our distributed systems evolve and scale. Set and communicate long-term architectural vision, aligning teams and leadership across Twilio.
Lead cross-product architecture reviews, standardize engineering practices, and drive foundational technical investments.

Partner closely with product, engineering, and executive leaders to shape strategic direction and technical investments.
Establish architectural guardrails that enable safe, rapid, and consistent delivery across all Twilio products.
Evaluate emerging technologies and platform-scale patterns, translating them into actionable architectural guidance.
Own critical design decisions for reliability, scalability, security, and cost optimization at enterprise level.
Champion cross-functional collaboration to resolve dependencies and enable efficient product outcomes.
Drive measurable improvements in architectural integrity, observability, and operational resilience.
Influence engineering standards and best practices through clear documentation and strong cross-team advocacy.
Identify risks and trade-offs in large-scale systems, and define mitigation strategies that balance speed and stability.
Enable teams through tools, frameworks, and reference implementations that simplify building compliant solutions.
Represent Twilio in external technical discussions and contribute to the broader industry dialogue on platform strategy.
Guide technical discovery and proof-of-concept efforts that validate architectural direction at scale.

Required qualifications include a minimum of 15 years of experience designing and scaling distributed systems and platforms. You must demonstrate the ability to set technical vision and strategy at an enterprise or company-wide level. Expertise in system design, reliability, scalability, security, and cost optimization for large-scale architectures is essential. You should have a proven experience leading cross-functional initiatives and resolving highly complex, ambiguous technical problems. A documented record of mentoring senior engineering talent and elevating organizational standards is required. Exceptional written and verbal communication, influence, and leadership skills are non-negotiable. A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is required, or equivalent practical experience that demonstrates the same depth.
Nice to have
Experience in cloud-native, multi-region systems and architecture patterns is strongly preferred. A history of driving adoption of engineering standards across multiple business units or product lines will be viewed favorably. Background in regulated environments or industries with strict compliance requirements is also considered a plus. Experience contributing to open source or public technical platforms is valued, as is demonstrated work with high-scale, customer-facing platforms. Familiarity with AI-assisted development practices and tooling is a desirable contemporary skill for this role.
Practical notes
This role is based in India and is fully remote. As a Twilio team member, you may be asked to report in person on an ad-hoc basis for team gatherings, functional off-sites, or customer meetings.
