Project Manager, Architecture

About the role

You will own the full project lifecycle for architecture and planning work within the Architecture Division, driving projects from initial proposal through final closeout with a focus on sustainable solutions. You will establish and maintain trusted relationships with clients, guiding projects with vision and precision while adapting to evolving industry demands. You will oversee fee estimation, scope development, and consultant coordination to ensure cohesive multi-disciplinary collaboration. You will prepare and route comprehensive proposals, translating project requirements into clear frameworks for execution. You will manage the design process end to end, issuing all required deliverables that meet both public and private client expectations. You will administer construction efforts, monitoring progress to ensure successful project completion on time and within budget parameters. You will serve as the central point of accountability, ensuring every project aligns with Tkda's century-old commitment to quality and community. You will contribute to the growth of our new Bloomington, Minnesota office, helping build a legacy for the next century of excellence.

What you'll do

Coordinate cross-disciplinary teams of architects, interior designers, and landscape architects to advance project vision and execution.

Develop detailed project scopes and fee estimates that reflect complexity, resources, and sustainable project goals.

Lead the preparation and routing of comprehensive proposals, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and alignment with client objectives.

Establish robust project frameworks that define roles, responsibilities, and workflows for consultants and internal staff.

Manage design processes from concept through completion, tracking milestones and adjusting plans as project needs evolve.

Oversee construction administration activities, addressing issues promptly to support successful project closeout.

Issue all required deliverables, including documents and reports, with attention to quality, deadlines, and regulatory standards.

Monitor project timelines and budgets, proactively identifying risks and implementing strategies to keep projects on track.

Serve as the primary liaison between clients, consultants, and internal teams to facilitate smooth communication and decision-making.

Ensure all projects reflect Tkda's commitment to public and private service, enhancing spaces where people live, work, and play.

Apply creative problem-solving skills to navigate constraints and deliver practical, resilient architectural solutions.

Support business development efforts by contributing to proposal content and demonstrating expertise in architecture and planning.

Maintain current knowledge of industry trends, sustainability practices, and technological tools to strengthen project outcomes.

Uphold Tkda's collaborative, multi-disciplinary approach by fostering teamwork and integrating diverse expertise across projects.

Requirements

Must possess a bachelor's degree in architecture, planning, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must have a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in architecture or engineering project management.

Must demonstrate proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail and quality.

Must have strong written and verbal communication skills, enabling effective coordination with clients, consultants, and internal stakeholders.

Must be proficient in project management software and Microsoft Office Suite, including tools used for scheduling, budgeting, and documentation.

Must have a valid driver's license and be eligible to drive for business purposes as required by project needs.

Must be authorized to work in the United States and not require sponsorship for employment at this time.

Must be able to relocate to or already reside within reasonable proximity of Bloomington, Minnesota, to support in-office collaboration.

Must commit to a hybrid schedule, working in the office Tuesday through Thursday and remotely on Monday and Friday.

Must adhere to Tkda's professional standards, including integrity, accountability, and a client-focused approach to service.

Must comply with all firm policies, safety protocols, and quality assurance procedures on every project.

Must be capable of understanding and interpreting architectural drawings, specifications, and related contract documents.

Must have experience collaborating with consultants such as engineers, surveyors, and specialty contractors.

Must be comfortable managing budgets, tracking expenses, and supporting fee-related processes for projects.

Must be available to work during standard business hours, with flexibility to accommodate occasional client meetings outside regular hours.

Nice to have

Experience with sustainable design practices and knowledge of relevant certification systems.

Background in historic preservation or restoration projects.

Proficiency in Building Information Modeling (BIM) and related design software.

Familiarity with interior design and landscape architecture documentation.

Experience supporting public sector clients or working on community-focused projects.

Practical notes

This role follows a hybrid work arrangement with set in-office days on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and remote work on Monday and Friday.

The position requires travel as needed to project sites or client locations within the designated region.
