Job description
About the role
Senior Project Manager / PE
Transportation Infrastructure
Tkda is seeking a Senior Project Manager / Professional Engineer to lead the conception, development, and delivery of complex transportation infrastructure projects. This role is central to our mission of designing systems that are safe, efficient, and built to last. You will manage the full project lifecycle, from initial client contact through the final construction documents, ensuring every engagement adheres to rigorous standards of engineering and client satisfaction. The position operates within a hybrid framework, combining independent technical work with collaborative team efforts.
Our firm operates on a "Seller-Doer" philosophy, where business development and technical execution are integrated. In this capacity, you will work directly with the Highway Group Manager and the Vice President of Surface Transportation Engineering. This collaboration is essential for advancing our market presence, strengthening our reputation, and shaping the future of our service offerings. Key responsibilities in this area include developing targeted marketing plans, nurturing long-term client relationships, and maintaining productive connections with agency representatives. You will actively track new opportunities, develop competitive proposals, and deliver compelling presentations that communicate the value of our solutions.
The work environment is driven by innovation and collaboration within an employee-owned, multi-disciplinary team. We are committed to optimizing every project for both cost efficiency and proactive risk management. This position offers the chance to make a measurable impact on the communities we serve while advancing your professional growth. The successful candidate will thrive in a setting that values structure, accountability, and tangible results.
Location and Work Arrangement
The position is based in Riverside, California. We are currently transitioning to a new office in Downtown Riverside, with an anticipated move completion in October 2026. Specific details regarding the new office location will be released formally in the near future. The role follows a hybrid schedule, requiring three days in the office and two days of remote work per week. This arrangement is designed to support focus and collaboration in equal measure.
Key Responsibilities
You will own the strategic direction and technical execution of assigned projects, guiding them from initial concept to final delivery. This involves drafting comprehensive outreach plans to clearly define project scope and align client expectations at the earliest opportunity. You will be responsible for structuring geometric layouts and formulating multimodal strategies that strictly comply with safety regulations while addressing community objectives.
Coordinating preliminary engineering activities is a critical function, ensuring that designs remain efficient and are prepared for advanced modeling and analysis. You will lead review cycles, organizing feedback, documenting decisions, and tracking all revisions to maintain project momentum. A core part of this role is the management and shipping of final design packages, guaranteeing they are complete, compliant, and ready for construction documentation.
Forging strong partnerships with agency contacts is essential for clarifying requirements and preventing roadblocks. You will also maintain robust proposal pipelines, where concepts, schedules, and resource needs are rigorously evaluated for feasibility. In addition, you will contribute to the firm's marketing efforts by updating materials with real project outcomes, thereby strengthening our market position and reputation for excellence.
Compensation and Eligibility
The target compensation range for this role is $120,000 to $140,000 annually. This position is designated as full-time, with a standard 40-hour work week.
Requirements
To be considered, you must bring a minimum of three years of hands-on experience managing transportation design initiatives. A deep understanding of sustainable planning methodologies and geometric design principles for complex networks is mandatory. You must possess the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and professionally to clients and agency representatives during formal reviews. Success in this role requires comfort with a hybrid work model that includes consistent presence in the Riverside office.
Preferred Qualifications
While not mandatory, familiarity with collaborative tools and industry-standard modeling software is highly valued. Candidates with a proven track record in these areas will be considered preferred.
