What you'll do

• Collaborate with project managers and engineers to understand project specifications and requirements for prefabricated components.
• Operate various machinery and tools, including saws, drills, and welding equipment, to fabricate components according to precise measurements and designs.
• Assemble prefabricated units, ensuring that all parts fit together correctly and meet quality standards before they are shipped to the job site.
• Conduct quality control inspections on prefabricated components to identify any defects or issues that need to be addressed before delivery.
• Maintain a clean and organized workspace, adhering to safety protocols and best practices to ensure a safe working environment for all team members.
• Work with materials such as wood, metal, and composites, understanding their properties and how they affect the fabrication process.
• Participate in training sessions to stay updated on the latest techniques and technologies in prefabrication and construction.
• Collaborate with other shop workers to optimize workflow and improve production efficiency, sharing insights and suggestions for process improvements.
• Document production processes and maintain accurate records of materials used, labor hours, and completed projects for reporting purposes.
• Assist in troubleshooting and resolving any issues that arise during the fabrication process, working closely with supervisors to implement solutions.
• Engage in continuous improvement initiatives, providing feedback on shop operations and suggesting enhancements to increase productivity and quality.
• Support the logistics of transporting prefabricated components to various job sites, ensuring timely delivery and proper handling during transit.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in construction or manufacturing preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a prefabrication, manufacturing, or construction environment.
• Proficiency in operating hand tools and machinery related to prefabrication and assembly processes.
• Strong understanding of construction drawings and blueprints, with the ability to interpret technical specifications accurately.
• Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in a manufacturing or construction setting.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
• Good communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively collaborate with team members and supervisors.

Nice to have

• Experience with advanced prefabrication techniques or technologies, such as modular construction or 3D printing.
• Familiarity with Lean manufacturing principles and practices aimed at reducing waste and improving efficiency.
• Certification in forklift operation or other relevant machinery is a plus.
• Previous experience in a leadership or supervisory role within a shop environment.

Skills & tools

• Proficient in using a variety of hand and power tools, including saws, drills, and welding equipment.
