Healthcare Industry Reporter and Storyteller
Job description
About the role
You will own the end-to-end creation of journalistic content that educates the healthcare industry and builds value for Tennr's audiences. You will act as the primary researcher and storyteller, translating complex industry dynamics into clear, useful narratives through feature writing and analysis. You will conduct deep interviews with customers, prospects, and industry experts to uncover the stories that matter most today. You will maintain complete ownership over story substance, angle, and delivery while working within a fast-moving, high-velocity environment. Your work will never be a sales pitch; it will be credible, audience-first reporting that reflects the reality of the healthcare referral ecosystem. You will leverage design, distribution, and web development support to amplify your work, but you will be the sole owner of the final product and its impact. Because the problems in healthcare are urgent, you will need to hustle, move quickly, and keep pace with a rapidly evolving landscape.
Key facts
What you'll do
Identify high-value story opportunities for Tennr by scanning the healthcare landscape and surfacing topics that matter to providers, payers, and operators.
Interview physicians, administrators, and industry leaders to gather primary source material and clarify the nuances of referral and qualification challenges.
Distill complex operational and regulatory realities into clear, accessible narratives that help audiences understand delays, denials, and workflow gaps.
Produce long-form features, data-driven explainers, educational toolkits, and market analyses tailored to specific audience segments.
Run occasional webinars and contribute to live or recorded presentations, helping to shape the narrative around key industry trends.
Prepare speakers and executive voices for external events, ensuring that messaging is sharp, accurate, and aligned with audience needs.
Collaborate closely with designers and developers to translate your reporting into polished digital experiences and data visualizations.
Operate with remote-optional flexibility, working in-person four days a week at the Hudson Square office while maintaining deep focus during remote time.
Maintain a relentless focus on clarity, accuracy, and craft, ensuring that every piece of content delivers concrete value rather than abstract commentary.
Act as the editorial backbone of Tennr's marketing function, setting the standard for quality and curiosity across all audience touchpoints.
Requirements
You must be a writer with an obsessive commitment to clarity, precision, and the craft of storytelling in journalism.
You must have at least three years of professional experience as a journalist at a newspaper, industry publication, or other established media company.
You must be deeply curious, capable of conducting truly deep research to uncover the underlying structures and human dynamics within complex healthcare systems.
You must hold a college degree, or possess equivalent journalism experience that clearly substitutes for the traditional degree requirement.
You must reject AI-generated work for audiences, believing it is rude to publish content that does not reflect genuine human inquiry and verification.
You must be comfortable reporting through interviews, data interpretation, and primary source documentation rather than relying on pre-packaged narratives.
You must have a demonstrated interest in healthcare, particularly through prior reporting or work experience focused on the business side of the industry.
You must be willing to work from New York City's Hudson Square office four days per week, with one day remote-optional, and adhere to the associated schedule and collaboration expectations.
Nice to have
Prior reporting or professional experience that centers on healthcare from a business or operational perspective.
