About the role
The successful candidate will lead and manage development of user terminal type approval and certification process, third-party vendor management, and definition of test procedures for the Telesat Lightspeed LEO constellation. They will provide technical expertise in the development, integration, and productization of antennas and user terminal technology as it pertains to the needs and use cases of satellite terminals. This role is responsible for the creation and support of user terminal sales tools. The position requires ownership of the end-to-end user terminal product lifecycle, aligning technical solutions with evolving market demands and regulatory landscapes. They will collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, and operations teams to ensure seamless translation of customer requirements into robust product specifications. The role demands leadership in defining strategic product direction while maintaining rigorous oversight of compliance and quality standards. Success in this position will drive the market readiness and performance of Telesat's user terminal portfolio for the Lightspeed network.

What you'll do
Define and oversee the execution of user terminal type approval and certification processes to ensure compliance with domestic and international standards.
Manage and coordinate activities with third-party vendors to ensure timely delivery of high-quality components and integrated solutions.
Develop and refine test procedures and validation methodologies specific to the Telesat Lightspeed LEO satellite constellation environment.
Provide deep technical expertise in the development, integration, and productization of antenna systems and user terminal technologies.
Analyze evolving customer use cases and translate technical requirements into actionable product specifications for satellite terminal solutions.
Create, maintain, and evolve sales tools and technical documentation that enable effective user terminal commercialization and customer engagement.
Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to resolve technical challenges and support the integration of user terminals into the broader satellite network.
Lead cross-functional initiatives to align product development timelines with program milestones and market launch schedules.
Champion quality assurance practices throughout the product development lifecycle to ensure reliability and performance standards are met.
Act as the primary technical product owner for user terminal-related initiatives, driving decisions that impact roadmap and delivery.
Partner with regulatory affairs to monitor and adapt to changes in certification requirements across key global markets.
Support the development of business cases and value propositions by interfacing with sales and customer success teams to gather feedback.
Promote best practices in product lifecycle management, ensuring documentation, version control, and knowledge transfer are consistently applied.
Mentor and guide junior team members, fostering a culture of technical excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Requirements
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
Demonstrated experience in satellite communications, user terminal development, or a related high-tech field is mandatory.
Show a strong understanding of antenna theory, RF systems, and signal processing relevant to satellite communications.
Have direct experience with type approval processes, certification standards, and test procedure development for telecommunications equipment.
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver critical projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required to convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
Must be comfortable working effectively in both remote and onsite environments, with a minimum of 4 days per week onsite presence as required.
Demonstrated leadership experience managing technical teams or cross-functional product development initiatives.
Eligibility to obtain and maintain a security clearance as required by the position and applicable regulations.
Nice to have
Experience with Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite systems or next-generation broadband networks is highly desirable.
Familiarity with regulatory frameworks such as FCC, ITU, or other international telecommunications authorities.
Knowledge of modem technologies, link budgets, and network operations relevant to satellite communications.
Experience with Agile or DevOps methodologies in a product development context.
Background in government or defense satellite communications applications is a plus.
Practical notes
This role requires a minimum of 4 days per week onsite presence at the designated work location.
Travel may be required as necessary for business duties, including meetings, conferences, or customer visits.
