About the role
The Aero User Terminal Product Manager will define and own the end to end product strategy for aviation satellite communication user terminals globally. You will act as the central decision owner balancing customer demands, technical constraints, and commercial viability across the product lifecycle. This role will ensure alignment between Telesat's satellite capabilities and the specific needs of aviation partners and terminal integrators. You will drive execution in partnership with external aviation stakeholders to deliver solutions that meet rigorous safety and performance standards. The position will manage requirements, trade offs, and feature prioritization to support both current GEO services and the future Lightspeed LEO network. You will translate complex system level satellite attributes into clear product requirements for user terminal manufacturers. This role will establish and maintain the product roadmap to address evolving connectivity demands in the aviation sector. You will be accountable for go to market planning and product positioning with the broader Telesat commercial ecosystem.

What you'll do
Define product requirements and success metrics for the Aero User Terminal portfolio in collaboration with engineering and commercial teams.
Own the end to end product lifecycle from concept exploration through launch, adoption, and continuous improvement for user terminal solutions.
Partner with external aviation customers and terminal integrators to identify use cases, validate designs, and ensure market fit.
Collaborate with engineering teams to translate satellite network characteristics into terminal level features, performance targets, and operational concepts.
Lead cross functional alignment among program management, engineering, commercial, sales, and legal to maintain coherent product direction.
Develop and maintain business cases, including total cost of ownership, value propositions, and return on investment for target customer segments.
Monitor competitive landscape and regulatory changes to inform product decisions and differentiation opportunities for Telesat's aviation offerings.
Coordinate user acceptance testing, field trials, and feedback loops to refine terminal behavior and usability in real world conditions.
Manage risks, issues, and dependencies across the program, escalating as needed to keep timelines and commitments on track.
Define and track product key performance indicators to measure adoption, reliability, and customer satisfaction over time.
Champion customer insights by synthesizing feedback from operators, integrators, and regulators into actionable product improvements.
Support sales and marketing activities by providing clear product narratives, data points, and demonstration scenarios for target audiences.
Ensure product documentation, specifications, and interfaces remain consistent, accurate, and accessible to internal and external stakeholders.
Drive iterative planning cycles, balancing long term roadmap vision with near term adjustments based on technical and market inputs.
Requirements
Must possess a Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
Demonstrated experience in product management, program management, or a related role within the satellite, aerospace, defense, or communications industry.
Strong understanding of satellite communications systems, including link budgets, ground segment elements, and user terminal technologies.
Proven ability to work effectively with cross functional and geographically distributed teams in a matrixed organization.
Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, with experience in evaluating trade offs and making decisions under uncertainty.
Strong written and verbal communication skills to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non technical audiences.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a fast paced, deadline driven environment.
Knowledge of regulatory environments relevant to aviation communications and spectrum usage is highly relevant.
Experience with safety critical or mission critical product development is a significant advantage.
Understanding of integration and test processes, verification, and validation activities for hardware and software components.
Familiarity with enterprise or government customer sales cycles and procurement processes is beneficial.
Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive technical and commercial information appropriately.
Willingness to travel as required to engage with customers, partners, and internal teams.
Nice to have
Previous experience with Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite systems or emerging network architectures.
Knowledge of aviation standards, guidelines, and certification processes related to communications equipment.
Experience with open architecture interfaces and modular terminal designs.
Background in business case development, financial modeling, and pricing strategy for hardware products.
Practical notes
This role may require travel to Ottawa, Canada or Bethesda, US as needed for meetings and project activities.
