Senior Product Engineer, New Products
Job description
About the role
Starbridge is building a platform that translates technical concepts for non-technical audiences, and they are looking for a senior product engineer to shape the user-facing side of this product from the ground up. You will partner with product, design, and engineering colleagues in New York City to craft frontends that are fast, reliable, and easy to understand for a broad audience. The work demands a high standard for user experience and interface quality while keeping the codebase structured for rapid iteration and customer-driven change. This is a full-time role on an early-stage team where your contributions will have direct and visible impact. You will own the end-to-end execution of user-facing features, translating ambiguous product ideas into polished, production-ready interfaces that align with business goals. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional partners to define requirements, surface technical constraints, and prioritize work in a fast-moving environment. You will be responsible for ensuring that the frontend architecture supports scalability, performance, and maintainability as the product evolves. You will also mentor junior engineers and set an example through clean code, thoughtful design, and consistent delivery.
Key facts
What you'll do
Implement user interface components using React, Typescript, and Javascript to deliver responsive and accessible experiences.
Design and maintain frontend architecture that balances speed of development with long-term code health and readability.
Collaborate with product managers to refine requirements, identify edge cases, and translate business logic into interactive UI flows.
Partner with designers to ensure visual fidelity, consistency, and usability across web platforms while respecting design systems.
Integrate with backend services through RESTful APIs, handling data fetching, state management, and error handling on the frontend.
Write tests and automation to improve reliability and reduce manual overhead in the development and deployment process.
Optimize application performance by analyzing load times, rendering behavior, and user interactions to guide improvements.
Contribute to CI/CD workflows to streamline the release process and enable frequent, low-risk deployments.
Gather feedback from internal and external users to inform iterative changes and validate product hypotheses.
Champion best practices around code quality, documentation, and maintainability to support a growing engineering team.
Adapt to shifting priorities and ambiguous problem spaces while maintaining a clear and transparent communication style.
Support the team's culture of experimentation by building tooling and prototypes that enable quick validation of new ideas.
Ensure that all implementations meet accessibility, security, and browser compatibility standards.
Act as a technical partner for non-technical stakeholders, helping them understand tradeoffs and outcomes through clear explanations.
Requirements
7 or more years of software engineering experience in modern web ecosystems.
5 or more years of hands-on experience with React, Typescript, Javascript, RESTful API, and CSS.
Proven track record of working in a startup or smaller company with meaningful engineering impact.
A strong personal standard for user experience and interface quality in everything you ship.
Understanding of how code decisions affect frontend performance and the ability to measure and improve it.
A team-oriented mindset with proactive communication and a willingness to do what the team needs.
Comfort working in environments that mix synchronous and asynchronous collaboration styles.
Genuine enthusiasm for building and maintaining an in-person work culture in New York City.
Nice to have
Experience serving as a technical lead and making architectural design decisions for a product team.
Familiarity with Github CI/CD pipelines for automated testing and deployment workflows.
Background in explaining technical or engineering concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Exposure to early-stage or pre-product-market-fit environments where roles are fluid and ownership is broad.
Skills & tools
React for building interactive, component-based user interfaces.
Typescript for type-safe, scalable frontend code.
Javascript as the core programming language for web applications.
RESTful API design and consumption for frontend-backend communication.
CSS for layout, styling, and visual consistency.
Github CI/CD for continuous integration and deployment practices.
Practical notes
The interview process moves quickly, with the team aiming to complete all steps within one week of your application.
After an initial CV and work review, you will be invited to a 30-minute conversation with a team member to discuss fit for the role.
You will then complete a programming challenge with two parts: a LeetCode problem and a React-based task.
The main interview loop includes three sessions covering experience and system design, live coding, and product thinking with a review of past work.
All interviews are conducted via Google Meet, so a stable internet connection and a quiet space are needed.
The team values keeping candidates informed about timelines and will work to accommodate your schedule where possible.
