Supply Chain Planning Manager

About the role

The hire will own the end-to-end planning lifecycle for Starship sub-assemblies or finished goods, translating complex program requirements into accurate bill of material requirements and supply coverage. They will work very closely with engineering, production, and procurement counterparts to internal rate goals and the design change landscape to establish a robust supply chain plan. The role requires utilizing risk management intuition to balance cost, reliability, and production rate in a highly dynamic environment while making effective priority calls. They will manage the supply schedule for raw material and finished goods to optimize days on hand and inventory turns. The hire will communicate forecasts to internal and external stakeholders that accurately reflect minimum requirements while hedging against potential upside. They will identify and mitigate potential risks across the multi-tier global supply chain by coordinating with procurement, logistics, and engineering stakeholders.

What you'll do

• Orchestrate the end-to-end planning lifecycle for Starship sub-assemblies or finished goods, from accurate bill of material requirements and appropriate supply coverage to timely configuration management.
• Collaborate intimately with engineering, production, and procurement counterparts to internalize rate goals, the design change landscape, and supplier production plans for a robust, scalable supply chain plan.
• Apply risk management intuition to balance cost, reliability, and production rate based on program goals and context, making effective risk calls to prioritize one factor over another.
• Administer the supply schedule for raw material and finished goods to optimize days on hand and inventory turns while minimizing obsolescence.
• Translate program strategy into clear forecasts for internal and external stakeholders, accurately reflecting minimum requirements and hedging against potential upside or directional change.
• Identify and mitigate multi-tier global supply chain risks by coordinating with procurement, logistics, engineering, and other stakeholders to propose creative solutions and drive closure.
• Balance new product introduction rapid iteration and design changes with stable production using nuanced risk intuition for both challenge profiles.
• Partner with engineering and production teams to plan and incorporate design or process changes seamlessly without impacting the production line's ability to maintain build rate.
• Support insourcing efforts where applicable to guarantee constant supply from internal and external sources to meet overall production targets.
• Assess and monitor supply base capacity and constraints at primary and sub-tier suppliers to inform program scenario planning and mitigate ramping challenges.
• Maintain part and planning master data to accurately reflect lead-times, manufacturing allocations, yields and attrition, offsets, order policy, and other critical parameters.
• Guide and mentor peers and team members to strengthen organizational resiliency and bolster the talent pipeline for future scale.
• Define and incorporate organization-level processes and improvements that enable the business to scale and efficiently utilize human capital, leveraging world-class manufacturer learnings.
• Develop applications, reporting, and dashboards to measure team KPIs and support the program as it scales to meet the Starship vehicle manifest.
• Synthesize complex supply chain dynamics into actionable plans that ensure alignment between engineering intent and production reality.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance forecasting accuracy, reduce lead times, and increase supply chain transparency across all tiers.
• Champion data-driven decision making to balance trade-offs between cost, schedule, and technical performance under conditions of high uncertainty.

Requirements

• Hold an advanced degree and possess 3+ years of experience in engineering, purchasing, contract negotiation, material or production planning, operations or supply chain management; or hold a bachelor's degree and possess 5+ years of experience in one or more of these disciplines.
• Demonstrate extensive experience in supply chain planning, including end-to-end lifecycle management for complex programs.
• Show a proven track record of managing supplier relationships and procurement functions in a high-volume manufacturing setting.
• Exhibit strong risk management intuition and the ability to balance cost, reliability, and production rate in dynamic environments.
• Have experience with inventory optimization techniques such as managing days on hand, inventory turns, and obsolescence reduction.
• Possess advanced skills in data analysis, reporting, and the use of dashboards to communicate program performance and KPIs.
• Display excellent collaboration and influence skills while working closely with engineering, production, and procurement teams.
• Demonstrate mastery of planning master data elements including lead-times, yields, manufacturing allocations, offsets, and order policies.
• Show capability to mentor peers and contribute to building a resilient talent pipeline within a fast-paced aerospace environment.
• Have a deep understanding of global supply chain risks and multi-tier supplier network constraints.
• Exhibit strong written and verbal communication skills for interfacing with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
• Have experience applying lean and continuous improvement methodologies in high-volume production environments.
• Show ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced, deadline-driven aerospace setting.
• Demonstrate proficiency in supply chain software tools and enterprise planning systems.
• Have a strong commitment to safety, quality, and schedule adherence in line with SpaceX mission objectives.
