About the role
The is responsible for supervising, training, mentoring, and evaluating bookkeeping staff while establishing department procedures, workflows, and performance standards. This role acts as the primary liaison between Dirigo and Corporate, ensuring clear communication, alignment, and execution of organizational initiatives. The manager will ensure accurate and timely completion of accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, journal entries, general ledger activity, and month-end/year-end close processes. They will monitor workload distribution, staffing needs, cash management procedures, and internal financial controls to maintain operational efficiency. The position requires ensuring compliance with company policies, GAAP, and applicable regulatory requirements at all times. The manager will manage corporate billing operations, including reviewing contracts and management agreements to ensure billing accuracy and maximize revenue capture. They will coordinate with external CPAs, auditors, and tax professionals as needed to ensure regulatory compliance and financial accuracy. The role involves serving as a resource for accounting-related questions from community managers, board members, and company leadership, providing expert guidance and support. Additionally, the manager will support payroll processing and maintain a working knowledge of payroll systems to ensure accurate employee compensation. The position also assists with the implementation and optimization of accounting and property management software, including the development of reporting tools and operational metrics to drive strategic decision-making.

What you'll do

- Ensure all financial records are maintained in accordance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
- Provide leadership and direction to accounting team members to foster a high-performance and collaborative work environment.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field is required for this position.
- + years of bookkeeping or accounting experience, preferably within property management, condominium/homeowner association management, or real estate.
- Demonstrated leadership experience with a track record of coaching, mentoring, and managing accounting or bookkeeping teams is essential.
- Strong understanding of bookkeeping principles, financial reporting, and billing processes is required for success in this role.
- You need Advanced Excel skills to perform complex data analysis and reporting tasks efficiently.
- Experience with property management accounting software preferred, Peachtree (Sage), and NetSuite is highly desirable.
- You need Strong communication and leadership abilities to effectively manage team members and interact with stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- You need Experience with condominium/HOA, commercial, and residential accounting practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of trust accounting, reserve fund accounting, and CAM reporting is required for this position.
- You need Experience managing corporate billing and contract-based invoicing to ensure revenue accuracy.
- You need Ability to work onsite full time in Portland, Maine to fulfill all role responsibilities.
