What you'll do
Coordinate and execute complex tax compliance and advisory engagements for a diverse portfolio of clients across various industries.
Lead the preparation of high-level technical memoranda and complex federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals and entities.
Design and implement tax planning strategies that align with client business objectives and regulatory requirements.
Perform detailed research and analysis of evolving tax laws, regulations, and judicial decisions to assess impacts and identify opportunities.
Develop and maintain strong working relationships with clients, serving as a trusted advisor and primary point of contact for tax matters.
Conduct risk assessments and identify potential tax exposures, providing clear guidance and mitigation strategies to clients.
Review and approve work products prepared by junior staff, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to professional standards.
Manage client expectations through proactive communication, timely updates, and transparent discussions regarding project scope and outcomes.
Support business development initiatives by participating in client presentations, proposal development, and industry networking events.
Mentor and coach junior team members, fostering a collaborative environment that emphasizes learning, quality, and career development.
Ensure compliance with firm policies, quality control procedures, and regulatory guidelines for all tax engagements.
Leverage technology and data analysis tools to enhance efficiency, improve accuracy, and deliver more insightful recommendations to clients.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of engagement methodologies, documentation standards, and knowledge management practices.
Act as a subject matter expert within the firm, sharing insights and best practices with colleagues across service lines and offices.
Requirements
Must possess a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field, with a strong foundation in tax preparation and general accounting principles.
Must hold a current Certified Public Accountant license in good standing or be eligible to obtain one in the jurisdiction of practice.
Must have a minimum of seven years of progressive experience in public accounting, focusing on tax compliance and advisory services.
Must demonstrate advanced technical knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws applicable to individuals, partnerships, corporations, and trusts.
Must have the ability to interpret complex tax regulations and apply them to real-world client scenarios with sound professional judgment.
Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills, enabling effective interaction with clients at all organizational levels.
Must exhibit strong time management and organizational skills, with the capacity to manage multiple engagements and meet strict deadlines.
Must be proficient in the use of tax software and Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced Excel skills for data analysis and reporting.
Nice to have
Experience with trust, bankruptcy, business operations management, and litigation support areas as described in the firm's service offerings.
Familiarity with industry-specific tax issues in sectors such as real estate, healthcare, manufacturing, and technology.
Knowledge of quality control frameworks and peer review processes within public accounting firms.
Experience with firm-internal learning and development programs, including mentorship initiatives and structured training curricula.
Understanding of client service excellence frameworks and technology evolution in professional services environments.
Practical notes
This is a full-time exempt position based in Denver, Colorado.
The role may require travel to client sites as needed, which may include extended stays or occasional overnight trips.
