About the role
This position forms a critical part of the Tax team, owning the indirect tax compliance lifecycle across multiple jurisdictions for WHOOP. The hire will analyze complex transaction datasets to ensure accuracy in filings and support strategic audits. They will take ownership of sales and use tax processes, validating data integrity from source to final submission. The role requires building procedural controls that scale as the global business expands into new regions. Collaboration with cross-functional partners will drive issue resolution and process clarity. Success in this position means developing deep expertise in tax systems and data workflows. The individual will proactively identify automation opportunities to reduce manual effort and strengthen governance.

What you'll do
- Drive the end to end support for global indirect tax compliance, covering U.S. sales and use tax, VAT, GST, and other applicable international indirect taxes.
- Design and execute analysis of large datasets to validate tax filings, reconcile transactions, and support internal and external audit procedures.
- Prepare detailed reviews of source data used in tax returns, confirming completeness, accuracy, and adherence to policy.
- Coordinate and assist with tax registrations and ongoing compliance obligations across domestic and international jurisdictions.
- Lead the resolution of indirect tax audit inquiries, notices, and refund claims by interfacing with tax authorities and internal stakeholders.
- Partner with Accounting, Finance, Operations, and external service providers to close gaps, clarify requirements, and document decisions.
- Evaluate existing workflows and recommend targeted improvements that strengthen controls, enhance efficiency, and reduce risk.
- Support the management and optimization of tax systems, reporting tools, and automated data pipelines used by the tax function.
- Take ownership of specific projects from initiation through execution, investigating root causes of issues and proposing sustainable solutions.
- Maintain current knowledge of indirect tax rules and guidance to ensure alignment with evolving regulatory requirements.
- Translate complex tax concepts into clear narratives for both technical and non-technical audiences within the organization.
- Contribute to special initiatives that enhance tax process maturity, data reliability, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Leverage advanced Excel capabilities to manipulate, analyze, and document large volumes of financial and tax data.
- Utilize data analytics platforms such as Alteryx, SQL, Power BI, or Tableau to generate insights that inform tax decision making.
Requirements
- Bring 1 to 3 years of professional experience in public accounting, tax, audit, consulting, or another analytically focused role.
- Highlight prior Big 4 experience as a strong preference during evaluation.
- Hold a CPA license or be actively pursuing the CPA credential, which is considered a preferred qualification.
- Earn a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Analytics, or a closely related discipline.
- Demonstrate advanced proficiency in Excel, with a track record of managing and analyzing large datasets.
- Show familiarity with Alteryx, SQL, Power BI, Tableau, or similar data analytics and business intelligence tools.
- Exhibit strong analytical, problem solving, and critical thinking capabilities in complex scenarios.
- Maintain exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills to manage multiple deliverables accurately.
- Communicate effectively in writing and verbally, ensuring clarity and precision in all interactions.
- Work independently while managing multiple priorities in a fast paced, deadline driven environment.
- Display curiosity and a willingness to quickly learn new tax concepts, regulations, and business processes.
- Experience with NetSuite, Stripe, Avalara, or other enterprise resource planning and tax systems is considered a plus.
- Be prepared to relocate if necessary to maintain employment in the Boston, MA office.
