Position Overview

This role ensures coding accuracy, regulatory compliance, and revenue integrity for radiology, PET, and Nuclear Medicine services at SimonMed Imaging. The Radiology Coding Auditor serves as a subject matter expert who evaluates complex imaging cases, performs detailed audits, and drives continuous improvement in coding quality. Success in this position requires deep knowledge of procedural coding rules, payer policies, and clinical documentation standards. You will partner with clinical, revenue cycle, and vendor teams to align coding practices with organizational goals and regulatory obligations.

Key Responsibilities

You will review all incoming imaging requests to verify that required details are present and complete before coding work begins. Cases lacking sufficient information must be flagged promptly to allow for clarification and correction. You will design and maintain structured coding frameworks for radiology, PET, and Nuclear Medicine that categorize cases logically and support compliant billing. These structures must facilitate accurate code assignment and efficient workflow processing.

The role includes quantitative and qualitative analysis of external coding partners and AI-assisted coding platforms. You will measure productivity, evaluate code accuracy, and identify recurring issues or discrepancies. Each finding must be documented in clear reports that highlight patterns and root causes. Based on this analysis, you will propose targeted fixes and process refinements to improve outcomes.

Collaboration with revenue cycle staff is essential to ensure that coding decisions align with billing rules, contractual payer requirements, and compliance standards. You will interpret complex payer policies and regulatory guidance, then apply them consistently to daily coding activities. This includes translating regulatory updates into practical steps for accurate implementation across the imaging network.

You will provide direction to clinical partners regarding precise reporting practices. Your guidance will ensure that procedural descriptions, findings, and interpretations support the selected codes and meet regulatory expectations. Clear communication is necessary to resolve ambiguities and prevent misaligned documentation or coding.

Internal reviews will be established and maintained to monitor compliance, data quality, and reimbursement logic. These reviews will occur on a recurring schedule and will assess adherence to organizational standards and industry regulations. You will track results, identify trends, and escalate significant issues for further review or corrective action.

Vendor workflows must be defined clearly to set timelines, responsibilities, and performance expectations. You will coordinate with external partners to ensure that project streams are handled efficiently and that deliverables meet agreed-upon standards. This includes managing dependencies, resolving bottlenecks, and confirming that all parties understand their obligations.

Through training sessions and process improvements, you will share knowledge that strengthens accuracy and operational consistency. Your recommendations will focus on sustainable changes that enhance coding integrity over time. You will lead by example and encourage a culture of accountability, precision, and continuous learning.

Position Requirements

Candidates must bring at least three years of professional experience in radiology coding, auditing, or a closely related field. Demonstrated expertise in PET procedures and Nuclear Medicine coding rules is required. You must be familiar with compliance requirements specific to imaging services and how they affect billing and documentation.

You must be able to read and apply payer policies, regulatory guidance, and industry standards correctly in real-world situations. Strong written and verbal communication skills are necessary, along with the ability to adjust your style for different audiences and technical topics. You should work well independently and as part of a distributed team.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in coding audits, participation in quality programs, or involvement in clinical education initiatives is valued. Exposure to audit findings, remediation planning, and performance tracking is helpful but not mandatory. A commitment to improving processes and mentoring others is highly relevant to success in this role.
