About the role
You will own the design and implementation of high-performance backend distributed services that power interactive data experiences for our global customer base. You will solve challenging problems that arise in providing an interactive experience on data warehouses for data exploration and analysis, ensuring robustness and scalability under demanding conditions. You will build with modern tools and languages like Rust, Go, GraphQL, Node, and Kubernetes to create cloud-native applications that meet evolving business demands. You will collaborate with peers and stakeholders through design and code reviews to ensure best practices amongst available technologies and drive architectural consistency. You will triage product or system issues and debug, track, and resolve them by analyzing the sources of issues to minimize customer impact. You will design and implement new software features to support our fast-growing user base while maintaining a high standard of reliability and performance. You will bring a strong sense of craftsmanship and a healthy academic curiosity to tackle complex challenges at Sigma and contribute to a mission of making data easily accessible for all users.

What you'll do
Analyze and resolve complex production issues by debugging and tracking system behavior to identify root causes and deploy effective fixes.
Design and implement new software features that align with product goals and support the fast-growing user base of Sigma Computing.
Build backend distributed services using modern languages and frameworks to deliver scalable and reliable cloud applications.
Collaborate with peers and stakeholders during design and code reviews to uphold best practices and architectural integrity across the technology stack.
Triage product or system issues and conduct in-depth analysis to track and resolve problems efficiently.
Develop new algorithms and modern APIs that enhance the interactive experience on data warehouses for exploration and analysis.
Utilize tools like Rust, Go, GraphQL, Node, and Kubernetes to build robust backend services and cloud-native components.
Support the maintenance and improvement of existing systems while introducing innovations that improve performance and scalability.
Work closely with product managers and engineering partners to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
Contribute to a culture of craftsmanship by continuously learning and applying new techniques to solve challenging problems at scale.
Participate in on-call rotations to ensure timely response to system issues and high availability of services.
Drive the implementation of features from conception through deployment, ensuring alignment with customer needs and business objectives.
Mentor junior engineers by sharing knowledge and providing guidance on best practices in software development.
Optimize database interactions and API performance to deliver responsive and efficient user experiences.
Evaluate emerging technologies and tools to determine their applicability to our cloud application roadmap.
Requirements
10+ years industry experience building and maintaining high-quality software in a professional environment.
Experience building and deploying robust and secure web applications in a continuous deployment environment.
Strong desire to be a great teammate and have fun at work without compromising ownership towards your work and responsibilities.
Demonstrated strong sense of craftsmanship, with a healthy academic curiosity to solve challenges at Sigma and contribute to team goals.
Solid understanding of strong Computer Science fundamentals, including algorithms, data structures, and system design.
Data-driven aptitude and its application to solve distributed system problems effectively and efficiently.
Experience with data model design and API development to support scalable and maintainable solutions.
Knowledge of SQL query optimization and database internals to ensure high-performance data access.
Ability to administer cloud service infrastructure on GCP, AWS, and Azure to support deployment and operations.
Prior experience working at high-growth companies solving technical problems to enable continued success and scalability.
Strong communication skills to articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Commitment to writing clean, testable, and maintainable code that adheres to best practices and standards.
Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced environment.
Willingness to mentor and be mentored, fostering a culture of learning and growth within the engineering organization.
Nice to have
Prior experience with Rust or systems-level programming in similar languages.
Familiarity with GraphQL schema design and execution in production environments.
Experience contributing to open-source projects or demonstrating technical leadership through external contributions.
Knowledge of observability tools and practices for monitoring distributed systems.
Experience with container orchestration platforms and infrastructure-as-code methodologies.

The role is eligible for stock options as part of the total compensation package.
