About the role
The Field CTO serves as the highest technical authority within the field organization. This role involves collaborating with Solution Architects, Solution Engineers, and Enterprise Regional Sales Managers on key enterprise projects that focus on architecture, AI strategy, and governance. The primary objective is to secure the technical decision at the executive level while enhancing the capabilities of the entire team.

What you'll do
- Oversee the technical narrative for the most significant accounts in your territory, working closely with Solution Architects and Engineers.
- Facilitate high-level discussions on architecture and AI strategy with CTOs, CDOs, CISOs, and their senior technical teams.
- Conduct in-depth technical discovery sessions and architecture workshops, stepping in to resolve challenging opportunities.
- Create and implement production-grade prototypes and custom applications that demonstrate valuable use cases, utilizing Sigma plugins, data applications, and AI-driven workflows.
- Lead discussions on complex security architecture topics, including PrivateLink, OAuth, SAML, and SCIM.
- Represent Sigma's architecture and AI runtime narrative at external events such as analyst briefings and conferences.
- Handle the technical aspects of challenging RFPs, RFIs, AI risk assessments, and security questionnaires.
- Provide guidance on integration, migration, governance, and AI strategies across platforms like Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, and Redshift.
- Establish Sigma's competitive stance against various AI and BI solutions, articulating architectural advantages and creating reusable resources for the team.
- Develop playbooks and programs for Solution Architects and Engineers, focusing on architecture patterns, AI workflows, competitive analyses, and reference implementations.
- Transform domain expertise into reusable assets across industries such as financial services, insurance, and gaming.
- Influence product development by sharing insights from the field with Product and Engineering teams, advocating for early access to new features, and shaping the roadmap.
- Mentor Solution Architects and Engineers to elevate the team's technical proficiency and expedite the onboarding of new hires.
- Manage multiple strategic enterprise engagements simultaneously.
- Maintain relevant product, sales, and technology certifications.
- Achieve quarterly and annual performance targets set by your supervisor.
Requirements
- A minimum of 12 years in business intelligence, analytics engineering, or data platform roles, with at least 5 years in a customer-facing technical leadership position (e.g., SA, Field CTO, principal SE, or senior consultant). Strong expertise in at least one cloud data warehouse (Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, or Redshift) and familiarity with others. Proficiency in SQL and a thorough understanding of modern data architecture, including warehousing, modeling, governance, and security.
- Practical experience with ETL and transformation tools such as dbt, Fivetran, Matillion, or similar, with the ability to architect solutions across these tools.
- Proficient in coding, with experience in HTML, JavaScript, and Python, capable of developing custom applications, plugins, and AI workflows from start to finish.
- In-depth knowledge of enterprise security and identity frameworks, including PrivateLink, OAuth, SAML, and SCIM, with the ability to lead discussions on these topics.
- Familiarity with contemporary AI tools and a strong understanding of agents, MCP, A2A, context engineering, and major model providers. Ability to position Sigma's AI offerings against competitors without oversimplification.
- Proven track record of managing and concluding complex enterprise sales cycles or large BI projects. Experience collaborating with Account Executives, Solution Architects, and Engineers to secure technical decisions at the executive level.
- Strong executive presence, able to engage with both CTOs and data engineers comfortably. Capable of leading architecture reviews and presenting at conferences.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating self-motivation and independence.
- A collaborative mindset, eager to contribute to team success and share insights. Focus on building playbooks and supporting the onboarding of new team members.
- A Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline or equivalent experience.
Practical notes
Willingness to travel up to 35% is required.
