Senior Front-End Developer
Job description
About the role
At Safran.AI, we are shaping the next generation of applied artificial intelligence for critical domains such as defense, intelligence, and aeronautics. As a Filiale of Safran Electronics & Defense, our mission is to design and deploy AI solutions that operate reliably on complex data - including high-resolution satellite imagery, full-motion video (FMV), and acoustic signals. Since joining the Safran group in September 2024, Safran.AI has extended its impact to Industry 4.0 transformation, using automated image analysis to support controllers in inspecting critical parts and detecting anomalies from digital acquisitions. Backed by 250 passionate experts, we work in multidisciplinary teams committed to excellence and technological innovation. This role is open from our sites in Rennes or Paris, with hybrid or fully remote options available.
The position is centered on developing and maintaining high-performance, secure, and scalable user interfaces for defense and industrial applications. You will work in an environment where on-premise deployments, strict security requirements, and real-time data processing are the norm. You will leverage modern web technologies and AI-assisted development to build interfaces that enable operators to make fast, accurate decisions. Because you will interface with sensitive data and critical systems, obtaining and maintaining a defense habilitation is mandatory.
What you'll do
- Architect, develop, and continuously evolve next-generation user interfaces that meet stringent performance, reliability, and security requirements in line with Safran's defense and industrial standards.
- Design and implement robust front-end architectures using React and TypeScript, ensuring scalability, maintainability, and responsiveness across complex visualization scenarios involving satellite, FMV, and acoustic data.
- Package and integrate back-end APIs into modern web platforms, enabling seamless extension of Safran.AI products and capabilities to commercial and operational interfaces.
- Act as the front-end technical leader within your squad, defining architectural direction, establishing best practices, and elevating collective code quality through reviews, mentorship, and documentation.
- Collaborate closely with back-end engineers and domain experts (including data scientists and system architects) to translate complex functional and non-functional requirements into efficient, user-centric front-end solutions.
- Represent the front-end discipline beyond the team by contributing to internal standards, sharing knowledge across Safran.AI, and participating in external technical communities when appropriate.
- Leverage AI-based assistants such as Claude and Copilot judiciously to accelerate development cycles, improve code quality, and reduce operational costs - without compromising rigor, traceability, or security.
- Ensure all deliverables comply with defense-related constraints, including data protection, operational security, and regulatory compliance throughout the software lifecycle.
- Champion a strong engineering culture by promoting quality, testing, and automation, and by actively contributing to continuous improvement initiatives across the team.
Requirements
- Demonstrate 5 to 10 years of professional experience building modern web user interfaces, with deep expertise in React and TypeScript, including type-safe component design and state management at scale.
- Show proven experience deploying and operating complex web systems on major cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP, including containerization, networking, and observability.
- Possess strong engineering judgment, with the ability to evaluate trade-offs between performance, maintainability, time-to-market, and long-term technical debt.
- Exhibit a proactive mindset for anticipating risks, writing clean and testable code, and making decisions that protect product quality and operational resilience.
- Communicate effectively and collaboratively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including defense engineers, data specialists, and mission planners, to clarify requirements and constraints.
- Work autonomously with a high sense of ownership, while actively contributing to team goals, code reviews, and knowledge-sharing activities.
- Maintain strict attention to security and compliance requirements specific to defense-oriented projects, including handling of classified or sensitive data.
- Be comfortable operating in a multi-workspace environment with associated security rules, access controls, and operational constraints, and support compliance throughout the development lifecycle.
Nice to have
- Hands-on experience with container orchestration tools such as Docker, Ansible, Terraform, and monitoring solutions like Prometheus and Grafana.
- Familiarity with data-intensive applications that process satellite imagery, video streams, or acoustic signals, including integration with specialized visualization libraries.
- Knowledge of continuous integration and deployment pipelines in regulated and defense-sensitive environments.
- Understanding of how to integrate AI assistants responsibly into engineering workflows, including prompt design, output validation, and security-aware usage.
Practical notes
This position may require hybrid or full-remote work depending on individual circumstances. Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a defense habilitation clearance during the course of employment. No specific working hours are mandated beyond standard professional expectations, and travel is generally limited to internal engagements across Safran facilities. The recruitment process will respect all applicable visa requirements for international candidates.
