About the role
You will own the full lifecycle of applied artificial intelligence solutions that operate on demanding real-world data such as high-resolution satellite images, FMV video streams, and acoustic signals. Your primary mission is to design, adapt, and industrialize cutting-edge algorithms for automatic object detection, identification, tracking, and semantic segmentation across defense, intelligence, and aeronautics contexts. You will shape the next generation of AI-augmented optical and imaging systems by pushing the boundaries of image restoration, multi-sensor fusion, and 3D reconstruction. This role requires a hands-on technical mindset combined with strong managerial leadership to ensure that complex prototypes are transformed into robust, production-grade deliverables. You will operate in a multidisciplinary environment where scientific rigor, operational excellence, and close collaboration with partners across the Safran group are paramount, and you must hold a mandatory defense clearance to access sensitive data and programs.

What you'll do
- Drive the technical and managerial execution of AI and computer vision roadmaps, aligning product ambitions with industrial constraints and customer needs.
- Define and validate architecture choices for image processing pipelines, ensuring scalability, performance, and maintainability across the full system lifecycle.
- Lead the development and integration of advanced algorithms for image restoration, automatic detection, recognition, classification, and multi-object tracking.
- Own responsibility for the quality, reliability, and delivery of software and algorithmic components, coordinating verification activities and managing technical risks.
- Mentor and develop a team of engineers and researchers, fostering a culture of continuous learning, best practices, and knowledge transfer.
- Interface closely with AI research teams, product owners, and system engineers to translate high-level requirements into concrete technical specifications and implementation plans.
- Coordinate with external partners and subcontractors on data, models, and integration aspects, ensuring alignment with program schedules and interfaces.
- Oversee the industrialization of prototypes, leveraging containerization, optimized inference frameworks, and embedded deployment tools to transition from lab to field.
- Manage end-to-end project planning, including effort estimation, resource allocation, trade-off analysis between make-or-buy decisions, and external work orchestration.
- Contribute to the definition and evolution of the technical roadmap, identifying new capabilities, standards, and partnerships to sustain competitive advantage.
- Collaborate with finance and commercial teams to prepare technical offers, proposals, and justifications that reflect both capability and cost realities.
- Act as a technical authority within Safran.AI and with Safran entities, representing the AI and computer vision domain in cross-functional governance and decision forums.
Requirements
- Hold a degree in computer science, applied mathematics, or a closely related engineering discipline with a major in AI, computer vision, or signal processing.
- Demonstrate a minimum of 8 to 12 years of professional experience in image processing, computer vision, or related AI fields, with a strong track record of delivering complex systems.
- Show proven ability to remain technically engaged while operating effectively in a management role, bridging deep implementation details with strategic oversight.
- Bring solid experience in software development and data science, including proficiency in Python, AI frameworks, and associated tooling used in production environments.
- Exhibit advanced mastery of Python, C++, PyTorch, and deployment tools for embedded inference such as TensorRT and ONNX Runtime.
- Possess a thorough understanding of system architecture and industrialization challenges, including integration, testing, and performance optimization in constrained environments.
- Have a demonstrated history of leadership, including experience managing engineers and experts on multidisciplinary projects that span both research and industrial contexts.
- Must be eligible for and obtain a mandatory defense clearance due to the sensitivity of the domains covered by this position.
Nice to have
- Prior experience with AI solutions for satellite, FMV, or acoustic data in defense, intelligence, or aeronautical contexts.
- Familiarity with model compression, optimization techniques, and hardware-aware neural architecture design for embedded systems.
- Exposure to simulation, digital twin, or 4.0 industrial applications within Safran or similar high-tech environments.
