The Senior Manager
International Payroll at Rubrik is a high-level strategic leader responsible for the accurate and compliant execution of payroll across multiple global jurisdictions. This role bridges the gap between finance, HR, and legal compliance, ensuring that employees are paid on time and in accordance with local labour laws, tax regulations, and corporate policies. The hire will own the end-to-end management of international payroll processes, driving operational excellence and compliance in complex environments. They will serve as the primary point of contact for cross-functional stakeholders on all payroll matters, translating business requirements into accurate payroll outcomes. This position requires a proactive leader who anticipates risks and implements robust controls to safeguard the integrity of payroll data. The role is critical in enabling the company to scale its global workforce efficiently while maintaining the highest standards of accuracy and regulatory adherence.

What you'll do
Lead the design and implementation of global payroll strategies to ensure seamless execution across EMEA and APAC regions, owning the end-to-end payroll cycle for thousands of employees.
Partner with IT and HRIS teams to manage the integration of Workday, Etrade, and other third-party vendors with the global payroll vendor, ensuring data integrity and process efficiency.
Manage relationships with Global Managed Service Providers and conduct periodic RFPs to ensure cost-effectiveness and alignment with business objectives.
Oversee the accuracy and timeliness of payroll processing, including off-cycle payroll, check processing, and the review of payroll reports to eliminate discrepancies.
Handle escalated field queries and resolve issues in a timely manner, applying expert knowledge to complex payroll scenarios.
Collaborate cross-functionally with the Accounting, Equity, HR, and Benefits teams to streamline new hire processes, terminations, and leaves of absence.
Develop and implement internal controls to ensure the quality, efficiency, and regulatory compliance of all payroll functions, communicating procedures to company leadership and field offices.
Ensure data accuracy and process integrity by conducting audits and reviews, and by working closely with finance to maintain audit readiness at all times.
Provide mentorship and guidance to payroll team members on professional development, customer service skills, technical knowledge, and management skills, setting timelines and monitoring progress.
Drive change management and ensure the successful adoption of all payroll changes, assessing and managing issues and risks independently.
Continuously identify opportunities for automation and process improvement to increase quality, improve employee experience, and enable rapid scaling of payroll operations.
Coordinate with the Finance team to manage international bank account funding and currency conversions, mitigating the risk of payment delays due to treasury issues.
Provide expert advice and execution on payroll projects with cross-functional teams, ensuring compliance and sustainability for scaling processes.
Anticipate and resolve payroll issues proactively, addressing root causes and recommending mitigation plans to build business resilience.
Requirements
Bring a minimum of 12-15+ years of progressive payroll experience, with at least 5 years specifically in a multinational environment managing complex global payroll operations.
Possess a Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or human resources, with a strong foundational knowledge of payroll laws and regulations across multiple jurisdictions.
Hold hands-on experience with different Payroll, Time and Attendance, Human Resources Information Systems, and Payroll Service Bureau platforms, demonstrating proficiency in these technologies.
Show a proven track record of managing payroll in compliance with local labour laws, tax regulations, and statutory requirements in multiple countries, particularly in EMEA and APAC regions.
Exhibit expertise in handling mobile payroll, expatriate payroll, and shadow payroll scenarios, ensuring accurate and compliant execution in complex mobility arrangements.
Demonstrate the ability to interpret and implement legislative changes related to payroll, taxation, and social security, staying ahead of changes to prevent penalties or legal disputes.
Have strong experience in managing payroll audits and ensuring records are audit-ready, including the preparation of documentation and response to auditor inquiries.
Possess excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and mentor junior team members effectively.
Nice to have
Preferred experience with Workday, Etrade, and other major HRIS and payroll service bureau platforms.
Knowledge of funding and treasury operations related to international payroll, including managing foreign bank accounts and currency conversions.
Experience with change management frameworks and a history of driving successful adoption of new payroll systems and processes.
Practical notes
This is a full-time position based in Bangalore, India.
The role involves significant interaction with global teams and may require travel to various locations as needed.
