Roku is looking for a talented and innovative Machine Learning Engineer to join our Recommendation team. In this position, you will play a crucial role in developing advanced algorithms that enhance content recommendations for millions of users. Your work will directly impact the personalization of the Roku experience, making it unique for each viewer.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Utilize advanced machine learning techniques, including deep learning, bandits, transformers, large language models, causal inference, and optimization methods, to enhance user engagement on our platform.
- Conduct online A/B testing and evaluate results against key business performance indicators to measure effectiveness.
- Collaborate with engineering teams in the United States and other cross-functional groups to convert business needs into technical requirements.
- Maintain and improve our machine learning ecosystem to ensure scalability, developer efficiency, and adaptability to future business changes.
- Assist in onboarding and mentoring new members of the team to foster their growth and integration.
Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in applying machine learning techniques to solve real-world problems at scale.
- Strong foundational knowledge in computer science, with the ability to write algorithms efficiently.
- Comprehensive understanding of data science and machine learning principles, including regression, classification, tree-based methods, neural networks, and sequence models.
- Familiarity with natural language processing techniques such as Word2Vec or BERT, with the ability to define appropriate key performance indicators and objective functions.
- Solid grasp of system architecture and its implications for machine learning applications.
- Experience with big data technologies, including streaming architectures and data pipeline management.
- A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, or a related discipline.
Nice to have
- Experience in developing recommender systems as a core part of your work.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Scala, or Python.
- Familiarity with big data tools and frameworks like Spark, EMR, S3, and Airflow.
- A master's or PhD in Computer Science or related fields.
- A curiosity about artificial intelligence, with prior experience or exploration of generative AI technologies.
Skills & tools
- Proficient in machine learning frameworks and libraries relevant to recommendation systems.
- Strong analytical skills for interpreting complex data sets and deriving actionable insights.
- Experience with cloud-based platforms and services that support machine learning workflows.
- Familiarity with version control systems and collaborative coding practices.
